Friends Life In Danger, And I Said No To More Mone

My friend lives in a Latin American country. He was deported from Canada, for criminal activity here.
He has become intrenched in his addiction, in El Salvador, and has become involoved with the mara Salvatrucha gang. by buying drugs off them.
I sent him money 5 days ago when they beat him badly. He paid them off, and of course promised that he wouldn't get into that situation again.
Today it was $65.00,and they were giving him until 4:00 to pay.
I read a lot of material on enabling, etc, and decided that I had to take a firm stand.
I said no more money. He pleaded, and begged, and promised. He said I didn't understand that they would kill him. I maintained my ground, and didnt send any.
He called about 4:00 his time, and the screaming was unbearable. They had shot him in the hand! I wept as I hung the phone up on him. He called back three times, and I didn't answer. That was at 2:00 my time. It is 8:00 p.m. now, and no word
Did I take "not enabling" too far. I am very distressed.
If what he said is true that particular gang is very vicious, however he may be saying all of this to earn your sympathy. This could get more dangerous and you really need to stop giving money to him. There will never be enough money. Just make sure you keep yourself safe and detach from all this as soon as possible.

Dont believe all he tells you. He put himself in that position not you. Dont feel guilty, He has to hit rock bottom to start his climb again to the top.

I have believed all the stories from partner, being held at knife point, being robbed, it was never his fault, wasnt over drugs. Found out later it was more lies but sucker here always paid the bills.
Not any more, thanks to the support from the wonderful people on here I will never pay again.

Be strong, nothing you can do can save him. He must save himself.
