G Y A C - O. T. Grammys

So D, what's your thinking on the outcomes of the Grammys? What'd you think of Stevie and the Jonas Brothers of all people? Some pretty second-rate performances from has-beens, wish they'd leave those out as I always feel embarrassed for the oldtimers whose voices have gone. Neil Diamond, wow, sad times. I must say, I do like the unlikely pairing of Allison Krauss and Robert Plant and you had to know Lil Wayne had that one sewed up. How about the Chris Brown/Rhianna business? That pretty young woman taking it on the chin by that guy - well, glad she dimed him out.

So, I always nose into your Intel threads with Davey just to get a leg up on the tunes...as always, thanks for sharing =)

You know MNM......it's all to commercial and routine for me......I did not watch one minute of it. I remember when I would break my neck to see those award shows but BOY have the times changed. It's just one big show of "look at me" and "oh...I wearing..." and more "look at me" along with a dash of "remember me?" ! I can think of SO many artists that would be considered "underground" that deserve those awards for making pure and honest music that matters. Whatever your taste in music may be artists should make music that matters straight from the heart....not for all that pomp and golden glory. After hearing about the BIG rap performance I did youtube the 09 grammy's and did a quick run through.....the girl M.I.A. gave me one big laugh with her....um.....maternity outfit (LOL). That whole performance was neat but like with the rest of what I saw I was not moved by it at all.

Still shaking my head @ that one!

My pleasure MNM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS.....what kind of music do you like????
That's a BIG question, D! I like it all as long as there is talent, thought, and a unique sound and perspective. Big Michael Franti/Spearhead fan, I like good emo (if such a thing can be said to exist, Something Corporate has some cool orchestration), funky girlband out of NYC called The Bettys...Los Lonely Boys and The Iguanas for that Latin contemporary....Robert Earl Keen...The Killers...CJ Chenier...Corrine's got me buying Blue October now.

Big fan also of Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makebo, the whole South African sensibility, especially the a cappella stylings of Ladysmith Black Mombazo. I like GOOD reggae, though it seems there's more bad than good...Third World was an old fave. Love Lyle Lovett for that semi-country sound...such an intelligent lyricist. Johnny Lang for a young bluester. For the old stuff - old Motown (especially Marvin Gaye)...ALL old Stevie...Paul Simon...Sinatra...Tito Puente and old salsa...The Crusaders...Grateful Dead (sad but true = )

But my all-time favorite genre is the blues...all the oldtimey players - Billie Holiday, BB, Etta, Keb Mo, long tall Marcia Ball, Howlin' Wolf, Susan Tedeschi (more recent), Bonnie Raitt...used to love Buddy Guy till he sold out.

The most music fun I ever had was New Orleans Jazz Fest in 1995 and 1996 and someday I want to return....God, 8 stages running all the time...blues, jazz, cajun, gospel, rock...the whole shebang...didn't what to listen to first!

Yeah, I love it all and this only scratches the surface =) I'ma check out your Myspace, heard there's some good stuff going on there...

Peace~M&M
Hey guys,

I just wanted to share that I watched the Grammys specifically to see Stevie Wonder and Sir Paul, also they did an AWESOME little tribute to Al Green and The Four Tops. So for those reasons, I'm glad I watched.

I can't stomach The Jonas Brothers, they make me want to vomit. The kid had the honor of singing with STEVIE WONDER and forgot the words to the song!!!!! I was rolling on the floor! They were singing Superstition. I'm sure someone posted it on U-Tube GYAC, you should check it out.

On the other hand, I do agree with G, it's all soooooo commercial and so many artists that put really great stuff out there and never get recognized is pretty sad. I wish I could be one of those interviewers and be like "who the HELL CARES what or WHO your wearing?"

Love & Peace
D
OK MNM,
WOW! I am going to express my creativity and make you a CD! I tried this with Corrinne (and failed) now I have to try with you! For the most part it will be stuff you never heard of (which is a good thing in the name of discovery....the real beauty in sharing music) but if you walk away liking just one song I will be overjoyed:~) I will send you a note(email) on the other side.

Dani,
LOLOLOLOL! I did not watch it all but I will give it a bit more of a look. I agree with you 100%.....to much good music goes unheard while Beyonce & Co. are shoved down our throat.

PEACE GOOD PEOPLE!
Looking forward to it, D! My hubby is one who always seeks out the new, the little-known, and the unusual...700 LPs, and 1200 CDs later and we've heard a lot more music than most people I know. Thanks =)
Ok MNM,
With that much music I am certain I can come up with the goods and I will expect a full review:~)(LOL)! Stay TUNED!
