I STARTED TAKING VICODEN 6 YRS AGO FOR GENERATIVE KNEE PAIN. AT THE TIME MY SURGEON SAID I WAS TOO YOUNG TO HAVE KNEE REPLACEMENT. MY PRIMARY DOC GAVE ME 2 VICODEN A DAY. THAT LASTED A YR, THEN UPPED IT TO THREE. BY THE END OF THE 2ND YR, THAT WASN'T ENOUGH. HE WAS RELUCTENT TO GIVE ME ANYMORE SO I FOUND ANOTHER DOC TO GIVE ME SOME. EVENTUALLY THAT SPIRALED OUT OF CONTROL TO 5 DOCS GIVING ME 15 VICODEN ES A DAY! DIDN'T FEEL HIGH, JUST NO PAIN. BUT WHEN I RAN OUT, I FELT LIKE CRAP. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO I GOT TIRED OF THE LYING, CAME CLEAN TO MY PRIMARY DOC AND MY RHEUMAT. DOC. MY RHEU DOC LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS A CRIMINAL,,,BUT FINALLY PUT ME ON OXYCOTEN. I TOOK THIS FOR 7 DAYS, THEN WENT TO SEE MY PRIMARY DOC, TOLD HIM I HAD BEEN LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, WANTED TO TRY ULTRAM INSTEAD, ALONG WITH CATAPRIS (TO HELP WITH THE WITHDRAWL). HE SAID HE WOULD MUCH PREFER ME ON THE ULTRAM SO HE WROTE 2 SCRIPS AND I WENT HOM FRIDAY NIGHT EXPECTING AN AWFUL WEEKEND!! IMAGINE MY SURPRISE THAT OTHER THAN LIGHTHEADEDNESS (SUPPOSED SYMPTOM OF NEW USER ULTRAM)...NO WITHDRAWL!!!! I AM HAVING KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY IN 3 MONTHS AND I THINK I WILL BE OK WITH ULTRAM. I'M NOT BRAGGING,,JUST WAS INTERESTED IN OTHER PEOPLES STORIES GETTING OFF OF VICODEN.
Hi may name is Jasmine and u r lucky, i am a nurse and u dont hear these stories often, i am an addict as well geeting of of pain killers as well and i wanna warn u, dont get scared, Ultam is addicting and u can get high off of it, I am not geeting into detail, dont wanna give any ideas, lol, however just wanted to put that out there so sweetie, please be careful, take care jazzy and thanks for the post..:)
Ok I am confused by this so maybe someone can help me out here. Fix this Jake if I have it wrong......If you were taking 15 vic's a day then just stopped CT and went to the catapress and ultram you should be in withdrawl of some kind.....catapress only controls your blood pressure......ultram isn't suppose to be opiate based(correct). I know one thing Jake if your doctor told you ultram isn't addictive he lied cause studies show that it indeed is especially in people previously addicted to opiates. (I researched this a few weeks ago)
hey misty, see i knew i was right, i knew a few people go out on that stuff, as a matter of fact i think that company that makes Ultram i got sued or something to that effect because they said that drug was not addicting and it is, so anyways i thought i would write cha back anyways, how r u doing today?? i am doing good.. keep in touch..:)

yes ultram is very addictive it has the same molecular breakdown as morphine, or else this is what a nurse told me one time whatever this means. it is the drug in which i started pain management with when i found out you could get high off it i started taking more than i was prescribed. it is one of those sleepers that grabs you before you know it. this was in 1998 and now i am prescribed 8 10mg methadone daily. after 1.25 years of about 10 to 12 meth. pills a day i am now down to 3 a day and next week i will be on 2 per day til i go to 1 per day then 0 per day. i know a few weeks ago i got off of them c/t and had a horrible time for 2 wks then back on again at a lot less per day maybe i am on the right track? i hope you will be able to get off soon pray alot it really helps
thanks

Hello Shakyjake,
Not to burst your bubble but like the others have said here, Ultram is just as addictive as all the other narcotics. When you quit the withdrawl symptoms are pretty bad too.
You might want to try to get off the pain meds or see what other options you have. All you are doing now is substituting one addictive pill for another and that isn't going to fix or resolve anything.
Good Luck on your knee surgery. Hopefully that will provide some relief for you and then the pills will no longer be needed. You know over time taking pain pills actually creates MORE pain for you then it relieves. It's a fact. SO if you were to get off the pills you would realize that your pain would be a lot less and more manageable.
