After 5 years of watching my husband drown himself in beer, I think he's finally ready for help. He may be going to an inpatient program, but now he's nervous about what it's like. He is extremely insecure, does not like people to yell at him or tell him what to do, dosn't want to room with people, doesn't want to not be able to talk to me, etc. etc. I am so afraid he may freak out and not go. Can anyone give me some insight on what goes on during detox and the daily routine. Thank you and please all say a prayer that he will go and get help. Our relationship is riding on this. I hoping that since this is the first time he has asked for help, it's maybe a good sign.
I wish you both all the luck and please god he gets help. thinking and praying for you both. Debbie
Kimmy, I imagine your hubby has already gone but if your still interested in knowing what an impatient treatment program is like I can surely share that.
I've had the luxury of such an expeirience, a few times over the past 25 years.
It depends on if you are in a facility that is dealing with dual diagnosis, thus
treatment for depression and other dissorders is part of the program or weather its a strick drug abuse treatment program.
The drug programs will inevitably have group meetings 4 to 6 times a day. AA may be apart of these or you may end up going to an AA type meeting a couple times at night during the week. There is a lot of sitting around doing nothing, maybe watching TV maybe meeting with a counselor or other staff persons.
I'd bet its a 50/50 chance of rooming with someone depending on how full the facility is. But its usualy not a problem as your not in your room except at bedtime anyway. If you'd like to hear more let me know......
Best of luck to you.
