Hello all,
I will try and make this as short and sweet as I possibly can.
I am a 28 year old male, 160 lbs
I was clean from heroin for 2 years and a bit. The last 3 weeks, due to major stress in my life, I started smoking 0.1mg-0.4mg of medium quality smack daily. Big mistake, I know. Anyways, I feel I caught myself before digging myself too deep a hole because I have been detoxing the past, almost 48 hours. I have not been experiencing anything too major (insomnia last night, cold chills, sore back) but nothing that is too horrible.. The first 24 hours I actually felt worse than I do now.
My question is, is how much longer do you think I will feel detox symptoms having had a 3 week habit. Also, do you think that the worst of the withdrawals is done by now? Any other info is appreciated
Thanks!
Three weeks is plenty of time to have a habit established. I would say you are looking at another 4 weeks of minor muscle discomfort and insomnia...after that you should be physically better, but what are you going to do about whatever mental and psychological issues that sent you back down a road you know to be fraught with heartache?
Glad you stopped...keep the stopper in place!

wow, really you think it's going to take another 4 weeks?! i was expecting maybe a week at the most to feel pretty much normal. when i came off a 2 year heroin habit it took me a month to feel normal. are you talking about 100% recovered?
Hi Nico,
When you were using before was it a"smoking" habit or were you shooting it,snorting it?
Although I have personally never smoked heroin, (I started out by snorting it and eventually went on to shooting it) I don't believe your symptoms should last more than a couple more weeks but everyone is different.Take warm to hot showers or baths...... that always seems to help.Make sure you eat right and drink plenty of liquids. I may sound like an MD telling someone with a cold or the flu what to do, but when we use we don't take care of ourselves. We don't eat right by any stretch of the imagination, so by taking better care of yourself during your detox may also take the edge off any symptoms you may have.
MomNMore could not be more correct in asking what are you are doing today to get back on the road to recovery. You need to deal with whatever it is/was that led you to start using again. You obviously were doing something right if you had 2+ years of being clean,so you need to do whatever you need to do to keep yourself from using again.
This is a great site to come to,lots of experience on these boards to give you more of the support you'll need on top of your own meetings, counseling or whatever your choice of recovery is.
Keep up your detox, it WILL get better, I promise.

It varries from person to person depending on general health time length of addiction and amount they were using. I can't give a exact time frame one to three weeks is a avarage the worst of it is about 5 days "for me". Detoxing in Opiate Rehab is not as difficult as going cold turkey at home it sounds AWFUL it's an option. You may also learn something helpful from a rehab. I have been to several rehabs myself. I'm at the point now 10+ years off/on habit I use A methadone clinic. Detox from opiates is a painful, miserable experience as you know. Here are Some tips: Remove drugs and alcohol from your home before you start. You won't want to eat at all but, do DRINK when able: have the kitchen ready with foods you like, especially focus on healthy foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, soups, whole grains and quality proteins. I like Dark Chocolate and DARK Chocolate can help give you a tiny mood lift. If able Prepare meals and snacks ahead of time before detox so you have something to eat during your detox. Buy Gatorade or other drinks to supplement electrolytes and have lots of water to drink. Have over the counter medications on hand that you may need a. Anti nausea b. Anti-diarrhea immodium c. Sleep aids d. Benadryl (to stop the endless eye watering, sneezing, and nose running) e. Epsom salts for hot baths. TAKE LOTS OF BATHS helps muscle pain f. Motrin for general pain. This is a bit controversial but,HERBS Valerian root + Valerian teas some legal herbs can be very helpful. Kava Kava, a powdered herb can be used to take the edge off.
