Had Such A Terrible Nightmare

did any of you guys have nightmares when you were in withdrawal? I was asleep and thought i had awaken but i must have been still asleep. There were GIANT spiders and a cat crawling out of from my bedroom wall. My addiction councillor said that can be part of the withdrawal. did anything so horrible happen to anyone else or am I the only one.? Scared the hell out of me! by the way this is my 6th day of soberity. once again thank you all for your support. dont know what I would do without this site and you guys now.
Pirate, yes, your body is changing. All those synapses and receptors and nerves are healing and alcohol is dragging it's claws as it leaves your body. Some AA members suggest having some chocolate around to soothe some of the cravings, and the sugars that you're used to consuming in alcohol are available in there. Your body is screaming out against change--and your brain doesn't want stuff changing, either. Keep in touch with your doctor--withdrawal can be dangerous and you need to be HONEST (that damned word again) with him/her in what you're doing. Most of them will try to medicate it away--and THAT is dangerous for anybody struggling to fight addictions because the addiction is easily transferrable if it isn't being addressed for what it is.

Go to meetings. Let everything go that can be let go, and focus on recovery. Go to meetings and listen. Your nerves are shot and you'll probably cry for no reason, or laugh at the most inopportune times, and you'll be nervous and uncomfy in your own skin. THAT stuff will all go away. Focus on recovery and, did I mention? Go to MEETINGS. When you can't, share here.

Just don't pick up the first drink. Just for right now.
Hi Pirate,

No I've never had a drinking dream. I've heard of people that have though not pleasant. I've had nightmares but not in ages, thankfully. Yours sounded awful! I hate spiders! The average person is more afraid of spiders than death.

I don't wear socks to bed as I get to hot. When I get up to go the bathroom in the middle of the night. I slip on some sandles as I fear I might step on a spider and squish one. This happened to my Mom once yrs. ago so I take precautions.
Hi Pirate,

I had a few weird dreams when I quit. In my dream I felt like I had bugs crawling on me so I started swatting at them, then (in my dream) it turned out that the bugs were squirrels. My swatting at them injured them so there was all these maimed and injured squirrels lying about squeaking in angony.... then I woke up.... Oh well.... I didn't have that dream too many times.

I also craved toast and jam for a while after I quit. I suppose it was to replace the carbohydrates and sugars that I was no longer getting from the alcohol.

Hang in there... your body will settle down, just remember to take it,

one day at a time, Cookster
