Halloween

Hi all
Here I go again with my questioning manner ;o)
How do you guys feel about Halloween? I would especialy like to hear from Christians. This IS about recovery.....I for one yearn for God as I once new him (and getting to know him more deeply everyday) before I picked up, In England Halloween celabrations have exploded. Anything that celabrates demons, witches and the occult must surley be a stumbling block for us seeking the Christian way. Well.....not really a stumbling block because we choose what to celabrate and believe, right!. However my children dont understand my reservations...I try to explain but the stores are so full of the merchandise..... they and their friends get dragged into it.Am I the only one who resists this comercial and demonic manipilation?. Or Am I showing signs of making a big deal out of a minor thing, as us addicts tend to do. One only has to do a Google search on Halloween and the Christian to understand my problem.
I am not seaking to be more religious....but want to be more spiritual and know that at this moment Halloween is one of the things ocupying my thoughts(better that than drugs eh!.)
Any takers
Paul
Hi Paul, that's a good one! I've wrestled with it myself. I'm aware of pagan traditions and that is a little eerie. On the other hand, we don't practice anything of the sort and it doesn't mean that to us. To be truly honest, I'm just not sure. I wouldn't be comfortable with the kids dressing up as satan, (of course the character from scream wasn't exactly a good guy either). I've heard all the holidays have some pagan traditions behind them. Like for instance, we all know bunnies don't lay eggs (easter). I think this could make a good debate and I'd like to hear it too. My mind is pretty open here because it's a subject I've questioned too. Much love, Kat
Hey Paul........
Glad to see you made it back from Spain! I have been to Menorca before and it is absolutely gorgeous.........That and Ibiza are two of my favorite islands! Anyway in response to your post...........I have many friends who are Christian and they struggle with the Halloween thing also. How do you explain to your kids about faith vs trick-or-treatiing? In the states here many of us celebrate the "Fall" or the "Harvest" opposed to the traditional Halloween stuff.........This seems to work for Christian families with children who have a hard time following the others who honor Halloween.........Thank you for bringing this subject up for discussion.

God Bless, Russell
Hi Paul,
I just was getting ready to leave and signed in for a sec. while I wait for Gina.
As far as halloween goes, I never looked at it in any other way then a night kids get to have fun dressing up and getting candy, and having fun with there friends.
To be honest I never even gave a second thought to halloween other than that.
Only other thing I know is Houdini died on halloween or the night before I forget.
Well it's time to get ready, talk to ya' later, hope your doing well, take it easy.
Take care...................................God bless.......................................Bob
HELLOIm kinda of new but my thougt is its just another happy day when i was little girl Iremember good times trick or treat people take life to sreiuos so just have fun with your wonderful kids and let them have fun to boo boo bo ooooo love yspearing happy days ahead
my personal oppinion....

just another excuse for Hallmark to make another group of cards.

yeah there are a lot of Fall or Harvest festivals in my area and they all do the same thing as everyone else give out candy and play games and have fun

use it as an excuse to spend some quality time with the kids

enjoy

I think that it has turned more into a comercial holiday than anything else. While I wouldn't let my kids play with ouja boards or anything, I do let them dress as something fun, not evil, and we go for a little while.
I take them out for the quality time, and the excitement.
I do understand your reservations, but I have fun memories of halloween, so I want my kids to have the same.

Good one Paul,
I always discouraged it. I take them trick or treating, but they have to look cute, not devilish and stuff. Personally, I don't like it, but I tolerate it and downplay it as much as possible. Just my 2cents and thats from the Christian viewpoint too, our old church used to teach us it wasn't good. Hope your doing well.

I am a Christian and I see nothing wrong w/Halloween (then again, I take my clothes off for a living, so maybe my view point is a little skewed.. LOL)

I grew up Pentacostal & our church always frowned on Halloween.... but my mother saw it as a kid's holiday to dress up and have fun.... When you look at it like that, how can you see anything wrong in that? We decorate the house, put on scary music, turn the lights off, dress the kids up in costumes.... we are not worshipping satan or practicing evil - it's FUN. The kids love to get spooked and we are sure to explain to them that the monsters and scary things are PRETEND.

My 3-year old was Blue from "Blues Clues" last night, but if he wanted to be a vampire or a ghost or a monster next year, I wouldn't see anything wrong with that.... when I watch a scary movie, I don't see that as worshipping satan or siding with evil; some things are just entertaining and Halloween should be one of them
Your right, theres nothing wrong with it, its just that church scared us and taught us that it was a satan thing (and basically if you participate you'll go to hell in a handbasket)....Old church stuff. We had fun too.
