I can completely relate to this mindset, which someone posted in another thread:
"The hard part for me was STAYING clean...... I'd go a week, two weeks, even 2 months at one point, & then I would relapse. I've self-medicated for a long time & it's hard for me to not take "something" to feel good....Other times, when I quit pain pills, it took weeks to feel normal & then once I felt normal, I didn't want to feel "normal" any more. I would remember how good vicodin made me feel (and suddenly forget all of the bad) or would be in pain and think "I can take them again and not get addicted this time"..... It never worked."
Several people have suggested adding hypnosis to my treatment to try to combat the voice that tells me that the pills will make me feel good, that I won't become addicted this time, that the bad isn't really that bad. I was wondering if anyone had tried this approach and had any stories to share.
Thanks.
no idea about hypnosis...but if it worked the hypnotist would be the richest man on earth. the best way is to go to meetings and get into helping out, feeling like you belong and sharing your story and listening to other stories...there is no softer easier way....just like my microwave that crapped out, i have to have patience to wait for the oven...
I tried to be hypnotised twice but I couldn't. Apparently some people are just too strong minded to hand over that control to another, even if they want to.
The first time was a live show, my friend and I both went up on stage, she went straight under, me - nothing. Was hysterical watching her though.
2nd time my mum paid for me to see one privately to give up smoking. I walked out of that place wanting to smoke more then I did when I walked in. Another friend of mine however, saw this same hypnotist and gave up smoking easily for 6 months, then relapsed.
I found Allen Carrs quit smoking book really helpful - kind of brainwashing with truth and it can be applied to any addiction.
If I could be hypnotised I would have it that every time I heard hard dance music I would feel like I was on Crystal Meth, and every time I heard love songs Ecstacy. Silly music and catchy tunes GHB. Wouldn't that be great, all the goodness of being high without the flipside of addiction and ill health!!

White lighter, i dont know, but u did make me chuckle.
I never tried hypnosis. I might consider something like that, but it rubs me the wrong way for some reason, kinda like maybe it's something that a person shouldn't do. I don't know why I think this, or if i really do. I mean, for fun, if a family member wanted to do it at one of those shows, i wouldnt stop them, so maybe im confused.
At a real pro place, it might help. I know my brother once quit smoking (started again a couple weeks later when something bad happened) I'd probably do a little reasearch first.
I think if i was so inclined, id give it a shot. I mean theres a lot worse things im sure we have all tried, like maybe coming across a bunch of pills after we quit & getting them just for 'emergency'

I too was unable to 'go under'
I was trying it for smoking though. After awhile I lit up a cig and said this obviously isnt working. He ran me out of his office. :(
Why I always gotta be a smarty? :(
