Heard It On The Grapevine

Hello everyone,
Apologies for not posting nearly as often as I want to. Our web access is monitored at work. Boo. My abstinence thankfully did not mean I went back out there to do some more 'research'. The good news is I am sober and growing stronger and healthier with every sober day I get. For this I am truly thankful.
After two years of coming and going to AA meetings and not really giving 100% of myself or 'getting it', I finally plucked up the courage to ask a woman to sponsor me. She said yes and she has been a great support since. She is firm with me and I get a ticking off if I miss my meetings but she has also been very generous with her time and sharing her ESH.

I read in the AA Grapevine today
" the March 1958 issue of the Grapevine, Bill W. wrote a piece that has since become wellknown in service circles: "Let's Be Friendly With Our Friends: Friends on the Alcoholism Front." Within the article, he asks about the fate of those who "haven't hit prisons, asylums, or skid rows?" He questions, "Why haven't these millions come to us? Or why haven't they tried to get well by some other method? Any AA can give you a quick and very accurate answer: 'They aren't ready -- they don't know how sick they really are. If they did, they would flock to treatment, just as though they had diabetes or cancer.'

I find that to be so true. I had no idea how sick I really was. Alcoholism unlike any other disease I know is accompanied by a long period of denial before many of us seek help and begin to get well.

I'm one of the lucky ones.

Hope you are all doing well out there. x

"They aren't ready"...Wow, do I sure know this one. Thank you, Ruth, for posting this, good to "see" you, and congrats on the sponsor! :)
congrats Ruth. I am glad to know you are doing well. I did wonder what happen to you and why you didn't post anymore. I am happy you have found a sponsor and that it is working for you. Good luck on your recovery and keep posting and let us know about your progress. God bless and take care
~DING!~
Anyone else hear that?
:)
Congratulations, Ruth. As you probably know, "It takes what it takes," to get here. Another "Goodonya," for the sponsor decision. As you know, there's nothing like Face-2-Face accountability. Get on with those STEPS!

;)
Totally agree with SKG...face-to-face accountability has been a tremendous help for me; now if I can find a sponsor who doesn't tell me that I am not ready to take the steps. LOL...:) Congrats again on sponsorship and working the steps. Best to you.
