Hi All, I got a lil' nudge from SKG to post here...so here I am! How is everyone? What's new? I am still sober, almost five years now....still active in AA and am continuously trusting my Higher Power...still a sober Mom to my two daughters, a sober daughter to my Mother and a sober sister to my Sister...otherwise my life is pretty simple and currently there is no chaos and drama....so I hope everyone is good and I'd love for you to post back to me and let me know how you are doing. VWGirl aka Geri
Yaaaaayyyyyyy VeeDub is back!! I was thrilled to hop on here and see your little bug around again. You have been greatly missed. Some of the newer people can't tell from your new sign-in that you have been around here a long time. You've got a lot of great advice to give away here. :-) Yipeee you're back!
XOXOXOXO Valarie

I thought that, I knew that your sober birthday just passed, congratulations! Everything is good with me...I'm still single after the end of my 4 year relationship with J...back in June. My oldest daughter, A, is trudging thru Jr College still, but heck she's in college so I am one grateful Mom and she is seeing a nice boy who is an Officer in the Army. K is finishing up her Sr year in High School doing it thru Independent Studies, she works for a Dentist full-time and she goes to dental assisting school in the evening after work...she would like to become a dental hygienist...A still wants to be a teacher. K is still surfing...but not as much since she is so busy...she will be 18 in December and plans to move out...both kids "party" but not like I did...and that I am grateful for...I am very proud of them, they weathered alot through their childhoods and have blossomed into wonderful, compassionate, caring women. Thank you so much for asking about them!
Wow sounds like you have been freakin busy! That's great that you don't have to worry as much about K anymore. Sounds like she finally "gets" it. Seems like you have mellowed a bit on that front too. For a while there you were spinning yourself in circles trying to help her. All you could do is what you did do. Be a great role model and help her learn the tools to do it on her own. A. sounds like she is doing fantastic too. How proud you must be!!
Sorry about J. Break-ups are never ever easy. No way to get through them other than to just face it head on. I bet you are brick s-house now that you have taken up kickboxing?? I wish I could get addicted to working out. I am way too lazy. lolol Good for you!! Did you loose a boat load of weight too? Awesome!
Glad you are back my friend. :-)

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Yep, things are good with my girls...thank goodness; I learned a lot of "letting go" with K when she was out there doing her thing...but it has helped me with "letting go" of my relationship with J...we still talk quite a bit, but I cannot get involved with him again at this point and time because he is drinking again. Even with almost five years under my belt....I have to safeguard my sobriety with everything I've got....and I cannot afford to jeopardize it at any cost....I actually entertained the thought of drinking when everything was going on with him, that was the closest I've been to actually picking up again.
On a side note:
So, for the new guys here, the oldtimers, or the in-betweeners, just remember all we got is today and if you are sober today, treat it as a gift...nothing is worth giving up your sobriety and recovery for...nothing! For me I know it is a progressive and fatal disease, this disease of alcoholism that I've got....and I do not have the luxury to f*** around with it.*

For the women who are struggling, I suggest covering VWGirl up with questions--she's been through alot and hasn't found it necessary to pick up or use in quite a few 24 hours. I'm just sayin'...
Thanks SKG, I really do mean thank you...I know that I cannot keep this gift of sobriety and recovery if I don't give it away...the very first Sponsee I had moved to Colorado recently and a gal that I have been sponsoring as of late cannot get off Crack....but she is keeping me sober that's for sure! Her husband uses and he hates everything about the Program and everyone on the Program, funny though it's the only time the both of them have been able to put a couple of days together, when they've been sittin' their butts in meetings! They've got a baby...it's so sad!
That last paragraph of yours says it all G. That's the wisdom I was missing around here. :-) I second what Skg said. She's a wealth of knowledge ladies and more than willing to help. She helped this ole drunk more than she probably knows.
Gosh, it feels so good to be reconnected with you guys! Ya know, I don't know much, but I know this...that if you be an alcoholic and addict like me, the only way to a rich, full and abundant life (and I do not mean materially) is through staying sober one day at a time...cause that's all we got is today...everyday I just shoot for midnight and if I just take the next indicated step (in sobriety) I've got a pretty good shot at staying sober one more day!
Sobriety is the only thing that matters. If we are"out there" all hell breaks loose and if we think things are tough now boy oh boy look out!!
I can usually only go a few days without checking in here. Sometimes I take breaks so I understand the need to move around and live life but it's nice to connect with people here. You were missed.
Ginger Snap (Aka: Ginge) pops up every now and again and Zac too. Idgie is doing fine and just living life. She and I email almost everyday. Anyone heard from Love-Dove? You coming back around made me all nostalgic. LOLOL
Good on you Skg for elbowing our girl back around. :-)

Well, I've stayed in touch with you, SKG, Ginge and Zac a bit....but I'm not going to a meeting tonight so this is great....there is nothing quite like one drunk talking to another!
Perfect! Weekends are usually slow as a snail around here. I popped on and bam there you were! Made my day!
I am sure there are a billion posts for you to catch up on but if you get a chance check out my thread on my 3 years. My friends (all alkies by the way) didn't drink that night to show solidarity with me. It was really cool. They didn't know what to do with themselves which was obvious so it was nice to have them feel for one day how I do sometimes. :-) For the most part as you know I have all the same friends and same partner and they all drink. I am cool with it though. I couldn't be around it in that first year though as you know. Now I just know that I had a good run with booze and those days are over and it's time for the next chapter....a real life.

Hi Geri! So good to see you and so good to hear your younger one has settled in as well as she has. My younger has gone off to college in Vermont and now my older one is back...ah well. My older daughter relapsed rather seriously this summer and we had to ask her to leave which resulted in her checking herself into a detox facility and hubby and I sticking woth our vacation plans while she was there...talk about letting go.
Anyway, it's peaceful for now - not for nothing do they say one day at a time - , though I can't say it'd break my heart if she were out on her own ;) She and I leave for Istanbul and Athens on Friday for her 21st and my 50th and we're both looking forward to it...we were looking at our guidebooks today and getting all worked up. She goes to meetings six nights a week (Tuesdays she's home with me watching "House") and for now that's enough. Funny, she quit NA and started AA and seems to be getting a lot more out of it, like there's more real recovery in those rooms.
Thanks for letting me hijack your advice thread...I just had to say hello and get caught up. You sound wonderful =) and you've been missed.
Peace ~ MomNMore

Hi Girls, Wow you both are doing terrific...
Valarie, That was very special what your friends did...not drink, that's a big deal!!!
MomnMore, Thanks for the post...sounds like your daughter is doing good too. I find more recovery in the rooms of AA then I found in CA...at least around where I live....so that's not surprising to hear that from your daughter. AA, CA or NA whatever works, right? Have fun on your vacation and be safe!

The great thing about gratitude is that it always brings me back and it can be given away freely and positively, really good to see you posting again as your E.S.H is always filled with the gratitude of being sober

Hi Cookster and Zac! It is good to see your posts! I am just living life on life's terms and sometimes when I think I need to stir the pot and I throw a little fuel on the fire, I get a bit out of sorts...but I'm learning with the help of my Sponsor and the Steps and Traditions of the 12 Step program of Recovery (AA) to work the Program and rely on my Higher Power versus my own self-will.....I give up my self-will then I take it back, then give it up and then take it back....just like a yo-yo as of late!
VeeDub...I sent you an email from Blue Mountain to your personal account. Not sure if your spam will pick it up or not. :-) Have a great sunday.
Thanks Val, I'll check it out...I just got it...have a wonderful day of football!
