Help!!

Hello everybody. I posted my first ever message about a week ago ('New and need help')....a few of you responded, which I really do appreciate. I have read several of the postings on this site and I am very impressed AND have a GREAT deal of respect for all of your successes. I have yet to achieve any success to speak of as of yet. I live alone and am trying to 'beat this' by myself, which I have found to be very difficult and unsuccessful. I have set (yet another) a starting date of tomorrow (Fri 7/22) to begin my latest attempt. Earlier today, I went out and bought 'the Big Book' of AA for added support and info. I don't have to tell all of you how tough this is....I'm living it...as you have. Being alone (without accountability) and being unable to go to a treatment program, I am largely depending on my own willpower, 'the book' and the support of all of you. I TRULY DO want to make good this time. I work CRAZY hours in sales and have my cravings immediately on my way home from work. As a 45 year old professional, with some good things in my past, this is something I have yet to conquer. I know you all don't know me, but I am asking for your help. I have been inspired by your postings and would like to be able to share in a happy story of my own. Please, if any of you could be in touch the next week or so to help me get through this initial period, it would mean a great deal to me. Thank you to you all and God Bless.
Boris
Keep on posting, make us your new drug of choice!
Take care.

Boris, Are you interested in going to an AA mtg? I can send you a link for you to find meetings in your area. You stated you work crazy hours but I know we have some very late meetings available out here in SoCal. Also, there are on-line 12 step meetings that you can participate in as well. Try to stay in today and just keep it one day at time. Peace & Serenity, VWGirl
Is it anxiety that is keeping you drinking? Can that be replaced with a hobbie? Do you have any hobbies? Im sure you dont like the part about going to work feeling slow and crappy....Ive been there. I was NOT productive and it showed. it is the hour right when you get done, you want something to chill you out. Thats when it got me. took away the stress for the day. Now all i do is not let people stress me out. Nothing gets to me. Guess I changed my behavoir. Wouldnt let it ruin my life or get me all revvved up. You get over it on the way home SINGING and winding down. The next day is great because your as sharp as a tack. Doesnt get better than that. Do you have problems sleeping?
Hi Boris- I am glad you posted- I will be happy to support you during this difficult time, and I know the rest of the board will be here for you also. It must be hard doing it all on your own and I don't know if that is the best thing. I understand you can't go to treatment bc of your work schedule. What about AA meetings? They even have some of them at midnight. They have them at all times during the day. Maybe you could go during your lunch hour. There, you can find a sponsor. That is someone in your town that you can call when you are craving. Those meeting are wonderful- as I have said bf, I have never been to a meeting where I didn't feel comfortable. And the meetings are something I really looked forward to when I started in recovery. You get to know these people and you don't ever have to feel out of place bc they are all going through similar situations. Try it and see how it goes. You will be in my thoughts and prayers! Keep coming back! :)
Hey Boris, they have online meetings for AA aswell.

Hello Boris .

Good to hear from you. I posted something on the AA HALTS that you might be able to utilise. You said your unable to attend a treatment program .I was wondering if you meant AA meetings by that comment.

Because right know you need all the support you can get and A.A. meetings would be a great source of support. If you just type AA meetings into your address bar you will be able to find meetings anywhere in the world and what times there on. Also just put in your local area. And like it has been mentioned there are online meetins which help a lot of people.

Its great you have a Big Book but at the meetings you will be able to find someone to help you go through it. But for the time being if you have any questions about the Big Book please post them and I will help you where I can along with the others in the rooms.

If you feel like a drink say "I will have one tomorrow." As we know tomorrow never comes. Also if you feel like a drink go and have a couple of milkshakes you wont feel like alcohol after that. If you dont pick up that first drink you cant get drunk and you wont set up the physical craving were one drink is to many and one hundred not enough. Also you wont get the mental obsession where all you can think about is getting that next drink.

Will power hasnt helped in the past and it wont help now.Lack of power that was our dilemma. We need a power from outside of ourselves a Higher Power.

The will power we have is like saying to someone with Diarrhoea next time you go to the toilet try and hold it back Im afraid you wont be able to. .A crude example but theres nothing nice about this disease.

I have to go I am on my way to a meeting .I cant we can. Ill get back later.

Keep Posting God bless LionelC
