My name is dana and i have been struggling with a heroin addiction for the past 5 years. I am now 20 years old. I have been to multiple rehabs and have over a year clean at different times. I currently have a couple days clean but am really stuggling. I go to meetings and have a great sponser who is always there for me. I recently got a felony for heroin possession so getting clean is very important for me and my life at this time. If anyone has any pointers or tips on how to get clean I would really love to hear them. Thanks!
Take one day at a time!
Give yourself a chance!
Take each day for the gift that it is!
On a daily basis work on making a better you!
Replace old behavoirs with new ones...(ones that better your life)!
RESIST TEMPTATION no matter how bad the craving get.....using will only make it worse and make you start over.....again!
When you feel the need reach out for help!
Build a support nettwork and surround yourself with people who have your struggle in common!
Those are just a start on this long bending road of recovery. It's not easy but it's worth the fight to remain free from heroin addiction. All the best to you!!

If you started using dope when you were just 15- now is the time to make a serious move to change your lifestyle
Ive been on methadone for almost longer than you have been on this planet. Let me tell you ,you can avoid all the sh#t I did , and never even have to see the inside of a clinic. - Not that its a bad thing, but in this day and age, so much more is known about opiate addiction , that the clinic is usually a last resort.
Get in touch with a doctor who specializes in addiction and go from there. There are 12 step groups, 1 on 1 therapy, new drug therapy - which wasn't around years ago)
There is a board for that type of recovery/treatment on this site> (Suboxone sub, buprenorphine, bupe, naloxone) .<..- Im sure someone from that site can can be very helpful if you feel the need to go that route.
There are county hospitals that will help you with an in -patient detox. You probably will have to wait for an opening or a bed for awhile, but look into it.
Man, your only 20- you can cut off years of jail, court dates, sickness, dangerous streets, unemployment, lonliness, etc.. etc...- you get the idea...
Keep in touch
best regards

Hey Dana, welcome to the board. Agree with what has already been said. I go to meetings also, i find, along with othere things that they helped me getting and staying clean. You can do this. It is hard, don't get me wrong, but with help from people and doing certain things that are suggested you can. You have your whole life ahead of you......
Whatever is in your head post it on here, also say it in meetings. You are not alone, take care of yourself, Kev

..There's sum good points in the above posts..cravings as you know are seriously hard to deal with and get thru as they stick with us day in day out..tapping away at our thoughts and putting us in low moods..and then when we use we feel guilty for relapsing which could lead to using again the next day to deal with the guilt or the guilt gives us an excuse to use ?..before we know it we're back to square one of the cycle of using..your in a position at the moment to not get drawn back into that mundane life addicts lead while in active addiction, hanging around waiting for the man..tryna get money to score by borrowing, thieving, poncing about tryna sell ya household/electrical goods, getting into debt..for what ??, a small bit of brown powder just to fill that sickness we physically/mentally feel..we only end up hurting ourselves and the ones who love us and believe in us(after a while they stop believeing)..gettting arrested, people looking at us like s***, whispering about us to their mates etc etc..like jack said..your still young enough to get yaself a promising future if you believe in yaself and have the willpower and desire to succeed in staying clean..if you get knocks on the way in wotever your looking to do with ya life..try as you can not to give into the terrible affliction that heroin brings..take it easy on yaself and good luck..Robbie..
