Hi all, I am new. Not the addicted one, but his sister. Maybe I am in the wrong forum, but I just recently went through his hell (helping him get into detox) and I can do it no longer. His addiction is Oxycontin, yet when we went to the ER to get him an immediate bed to detox, his tox and urine screen was negative for opitaes. High positive for cocaine though.
First he said, he had been self withdrawing from the oxy for 4 days, then changed it to 3, then changed it to 2 days. He called his ex, who has it rx'ed by an MD for her medical problem, begging for it to get through the weekend. Says he's been on it for 9 months. My question is how can the tox screen be negative?? How long does it stay in the system?
Thanks,
oopsicle
Hey Pop, It would be in a tox screen for at least 3-4 days...longer if he wasn't crushing it. I have no idea's as to why he'd lie. Maybe he thinks a prescribed drug (even if it's not to him) is more acceptable then a street drug?? Until he's ready to quit, there's not much you can do but let him know you'll be there when he's serious. Don't give him money or lie for him. Make him take responsibility for his life. Good luck. Beck
Hi Beck,
That is what I thought. Saying is was one instead of the other. Yet, the oxycontin is not prescribed to him. As far as I know, he buys it on the street and then when his stash gets low, would steal it from his ex.
He has never asked me for money. He knows I don't have any! Good thing.
