hello everyoone,
i am 26 and my dad has beenth4e GREATEST dad ever, i have a 7 yearol boy, Jay, who is his life. My dad was clean for 16 yrs. i dont remember when i was young, but that is why my parents split. he has a beuatiful house, his own business, and 2 great kids and grandson. i am an enabler!!!!he has been using for the past year, but i didnt know. wheni started to work for him thats how i found out. SO, since december he has relapsed 6 times. he is in detox now, and i saw him yesterday and lookjs great!!!!!!! he knows it is a disease and always thought he could get better over theweekend wiith suboxone, which NEVER worked. now the program is giving himmethadone taper. so when he gets out he will be clean of all. he did methadone for 7 years and would NEVER do it again. it was horrible. but i coudl honeslty say, my dad looked like "my dad"..i am his baby girl,i know u cant push the addict, but i uts dint wanto to go through this again. this is my first time as an adult dealing wit it. i read about it. it is a HORRIBLE addiction!!!!! so he is getting out WED then going to IOP (intensive outpatient program) whicjh is 3 days aweek for 3 hours and test uy urine. im so proud of him. Also ,the night b/f i took him in he had a heart attack and that was b/c he was using 30/day...he almost died, and i think that is what scared him.....
lets hope for the best
Hi Nikki, I know you are looking for GYAC......just wanted to lend some support.......it sounds like your dad is doing well....I am glad you got to see him looking better......he knows the struggle, and knows the work ahead.
Honey, you are not an enabler....you didn't know.....you're a supportive daughter, and now he's in the right place........they most likely aren't giving him too much methadone if he'll be tapered by the time he gets out......personally I did it that way, and was pretty good by the time I left.......it's still a struggle, and you know only your daddy can do this.......it's his battle, but support will help.......hang tough sweetie.
GYAC is very wise, and will give you good help....thinking of your dad in my prayers tonight....and you, and your son.
