My best friend has just reccently entered a rehab facility for heroin addiction. She says she's been using 3-4 points a day. I had no idea she was even using. My question is what is a point? And how long does it take to detox from heroin, and do you think she'll stay clean?
Hi Adam
Sorry to hear about your friend.
I don't know what "points" are, but my boyfriend is a recovering heroin addict and it doesn't really matter how much they are doing if they are addicted. Their use tends to go up and up and up anyway as their bodies eventually need more to sustain the same high or sometimes just to feel normal without withdrawal symptoms.
If she entered rehab on her own wanting and is serious about recovering, her chances are good. But it is something that she will have to stay committed to for the rest of her life. This is something she will definitely learn in rehab.
The detox part lasts about a week to two weeks, the first five days being the absolute hardest and hell to go through. However, the mental addiction lasts a lot longer if not a lifetime for some people. My boyfriend has been clean from it for 4 months, 1 week and 5 days and he still fights cravings from time to time, but he says it is getting better that way.
How long is she in rehab for? Did she go because of herself wanting to?

I think a point must mean a needle although I am guessing. I think detox must be easier than staying clean and I heard some harsh news from a doctor on the phone. Their is a heroin group now that you can look up on line. I dont have the url. heroin anonomous...good luck. The guys name is Paul.
