Heroin Use And Hepatitis C

During a recent drinking binge by my x when we were still talking, she told me that she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C about 2 years ago after being an IV heroin user for the past 6 years. She insisted that the only person she ever shared needles with was her x bf who from many years ago. She didn't get diagnosed with Hep C until several years they already splitted apart. What are other ways an IV drug user can get Hep C? I was told by sharing water? Can someone explain?

I know Hep C affects the liver. My x has been drinking heavily lately which isn't helping. If she continues down this path, about how many years before the drinking takes its toll?
Heart Broken,

Hep C is a virus that is transmitted thru contact with contaminated blood. IV drug use, needle sticks, sex, sharing a razor, sharing a straw when snorting coke, finger nail files or blood transfusions done before they started screening for it, like 15 years ago, any way where there may be blood. Symptoms dont present for years, if at all, so it can go undetected for quite some time. Flu like symptoms and jaundice are some of the earliest signs. It attacks the cells in the liver, causing scaring and cirrhosis. The liver treats alcohol as a toxic substance, increasing the damage to the liver. And, any drug containing acetaminophen will also speed up the damage, especially when mixed with alcohol. Have you been tested?
Just to add here...
very rarely is Hep C passed on through sexual transmission but it could happen....was with an active heroin IV user for six years...he tested positive for Hep C but still in its dormant stage...didn't share needles razors or a toothbrush with him (he didn't have a lot of teeth to brush) but i am ashamed to admit i had unprotected sex with him quite often..

no longer with him and yes i was tested for HIV and all the other STDs and Heps and came up negative....but methinks he is still flirting with the needle and guzzling a brew or two and i doubt he tells the new object of his 'pickle's' affection that he has Hep C....but one or two of those broken teeth of his were pretty razor sharp and i wondered if i could have contracted the Hep C virus from a fetid smelling vampire like kiss from him at times...

I just recently found out that she was Hep C positive so haven't been tested yet. I read on the CDC website that it is possible to transmit the virus during sex but rare. My x and I always used protection with the one exception when we had a faulty condom which led to her pregnancy. About 3 months later, she finally told me about the Hep C and that was while she was drunk.

I had a physical back in August and I explained my situation to my doc. The doc suggested I get all the standard STD test done since my x was an IV drug user. She ran all the usual test and all came back negative. She also took blood for a bloodwork and everything came back fine. Not sure if she tested for Hep C though so I'll need to check with the doctors office.
