I've been on this board (lurking & posting when warranted) since ? March 04, whatever, I'm here to say that suboxone is a great help to anyone who wants to detox and stay off drugs. I started taking pills off and on about 10 years ago and the last 3 yrs. was taking hydo every day. Sometimes 20-25 pills a day. And they were compounded hydro 15 mg. and only 8mg. tylenol. Good for your liver, bad for your life!!!! My saving grace was subatex, which should be followed with suboxone, but my A*** doc at that time would not prescribe the suboxone, but he believe was like methodone, a carry-over program. Well, huh, that is exactly what I needed, the continuation of the suboxone program, because since March I have been absolutely straight!!! End of my story -- P. S. Bob -- bite my a**!!
would like to know what is the difference between these to: subatex and subonone and is this a short period you are on this or a life time med.

I would also like to know the difference, too. I hope and pray that it is not like methedone, I've seen to much bad stuff on that stuff. But please, no one get mad, that is my opion about it. Methedone, might work better on some people, just not the people, i seen. They walk around like a zombie.
Suboxone is bup with naloxene
subutex is bup without
I read on another forum that its easier to wean off of subutex because of the absence of naloxene. Dont know if its true, I was on suboxone and never had subutex

Okay, sweet, loving people of mine, there is something within that needs help. Like I said, I slowly got addicted to hydo, (DOC), but would take other stuff if available (more like necessary)!! Oh Lord, I am so glad those days are gone!! John Dee you are right, both subatex and suboxone are bunorphrine based. One with naloxone, which just means you can't shoot it. Subatex is pure bup, without the naxolene, which stabilizies it so you can't shoot it. Anyway, I never tried any of that, I was on Subatex for a while to avoid withdrawl from hydro and it was great. The treatment plan should be followed up with the suboxone, which I had to find another doctor for, but it is the best thing that I could have done. Even if you try to get high, it won't work!!!!! If you have to have surgery or other issued, you have to tell your doctor about it. Good luck to all -- try the website I suggested months ago, (check past posts), but I think it is Samsha.org
Tracey, it seems everyone is different, some are off and fine after 10-14 days, others have to maintain and wean over a couple of months, others maintain for a while for pain relief and to stay of their DOC.
If you just want a short detox, you can do that. You may be able to wean off after two weeks and be OK, or you may take longer. Theres no concrete answer

so taking subatex is for w/d of vic's, as that is my drug of choice. I will be looking for doc's come monday but I would not like to look stupid or anything and i want to be active in my care as well. I want to have some knowledge of what i am seeking. I have checked out a few of the web sites that were suggested, but some of you have tried theses and are familar with them and i am just looking for the best way to go.

Hi, John Dee,
Yes, you are right about the 10-14 day thing. For subatex. That is the main blast to get you through withdrawl without major detox. Then, the suboxone helps stay off drugs. Here's what happened to me: doc came through with subatex as I was going through withdrawl. Fine. Good to go for 2 weeks, and weaning off subatex. You know, from 8 mg. to 6 mg. to 4 mg. to 2 mg. (cutting all those pills up!!!) anyway, when I was cut off, a got so sick in my stomach, after so long, I could not stand it, and went back to drugs (hydro) had to order another 250 off the net. another $600 on my credit card. Back for Fricking Square 1. I did it about twice. (The whole routine.) Finally the third time I realized that I needed the continuing care of suboxone. No, you don't get high from it (hahahaha good luck!!), but it makes you (ME!) feel like a normal everyday person. That's what I want. Normal. Calm. Everyday. Being high was great, but not where it's at. Hmmmm. No, No. No. No. I take less and less suboxone every week. I don't know if I can do without it entirely, but some day I will. I have other issues, (hormones, depressions, blah, blah,). But, my recommendation is that subatex in the beginning of detox and then suboxone as a follow-up is a great way to go. Want to recommend me for an advertisement! My husband will love it -- Poster Queen for Suboxone!!!!!!!
Love ya all,

Love ya all,
Tracey, I think it depends on where you live and the doctor whether you'll get suboxone or subutex. I got suboxone for a short taper. Thats all my doc gives whether its a short taper or maintenance.
Theres been a lot of discussion about this on another board. It seems its easier to wean off of subutex for a short detox because the naloxone gets ingested and causes minor withdrawals.
I didnt have a choice so I took the suboxone and it worked great. If I had a choice I would do subutex.
Good Luck

thanks I get alittle confused because alot of you just say "sub" and I not sure which one,( just found out there were two) your talking about. I want help with the cravings, w/d mainly and to be functionable or close to it. I attempted c/t and couldnt do it, 22hrs was hell for me and I know i cant do it alone. so well see what monday brings. I am attempting tapering as we speak, but there to acessible (in my purse) and thats well lets say I dont think its much tapering .

I couldnt taper either Tracey, I would try for a day and then say screw it, Ill start tomorrow. Its very hard, very few can successfully taper. If I had a week off I would have CT, But had too much going on and had to function and with the suboxone, I could and did.

thanks it sounds as if using suboxone is the best way for me to go. It sounds very encouraging. and i am glad to hear i'm not the only one who has a hard time with tapering. I read some of the other post on the subject and some do really well, in a very short period of time. I am just not that strong enough, I do exactly the same thing " i start over tomorrow" with such good intentions too.

Hi Guys,
Today is the end of day 2 for me on suboxone, which is what my Dr. started me on, and I feel normal with no w/d symptoms and best of all, no cravings. I never could taper either and cold turkey was HARD! All i ever thought about was pills pills pills, and eventually would relapse, even after I got past the physical part. I hope I can do this with this stuff.
Good luck,
Redd

Hey MJ,
I'm glad to see I have company! And yes, it is great to be in recovery as opposed to using. I have not had any cravings either and I feel good. I cleaned the house today and I wasn't drained from it like I would be if I were c/t. I'm so glad for both of us.
Tracey,
So glad to hear you are looking into this, I hope it works for you. These are big steps we are taking and I'm here for you . Please post tomorrow so I know how it went.
