Don't be in too much of a hurry to kick those subs...they might be keeping you sane and healthy. A slooooooow taper is the way to go, a doctor would never recommend coming off them in a single weekend, nor a week, nor even a month, and there's good reason for that. It's like losing weight, the longer it takes, the more likely it is to stay off.
Good luck...with these guys in your corner you'll have some serious help.
Peace ~ MomNMore

..Im Robbie from London..Pleased to read ya..You did'nt say what dosage of subbie your on at the moment mate ?..Do you feel strong enough in yaself to make it the last time you will ever use subs or gear if you do manage to come off the subs now..you have obviously given it some serious thought i am assuming.. but whats the rush to get off the subs ?.. i read that you said that your fiance has been clean 2mths and your determined to get clean aswell..but i also read that you have come off the subs "loads" of times before..we both know how hard to is to stay clean and battle the cravings when there is nothing to fall back on man, its proper hard to fight them off, especially in the early days once the honeymoon period of being off the gear stops..its a few weeks later when ya got dough in ya pocket and start to feel bored all of a sudden..what im tryna say is, why don't ya take thngs easy regarding the subs and come off them slowly, maybe 2mls a week or fortnight..stay stablised for the time being and enjoy some time wit ya girl while shes still in early days clean time..instead off having to go thru the horrible sicken hot n cold sweats, achy legs, feeling cold inside ya bonees and running nose etc etc that ya would feel if ya jumped off the subs at the weekend..as you said "its hard stopping the subs as ya done it many times before"..Tel, im not tryna tell ya how to run ya sub life, just tryna give ya a bit of support and maybe help ya rethink things..cause you know how hard it is not to relapse when ya in w/ds..whatever ya choose to do, good luck and i hope ya get thru it and manage to live a drugfree life for you and ya missus..take it easy mate..Robbie..

Hey all! Think you might have guessed by now that T or Tel is my other half. A lot of yu have been on my journey since I joined the board 5 years ago after coming out Detox 5. The funny thing is, my very first post also said "hi, I'm new here"!!!
Tel knows all about the subs unfortunately. We've both been on them "officially" about 15 times and "unofficially" about 20! We've used them, abused them, tried every way possible to take the p*ss out of them and still use, we've done 3 day detoxes, 3 month detoxes, blah blah. You get me? This time I'm not long out of rehab and I'd already been on Suboxone for months but I was using on top. When I went into rehab, they put me on Subutex with diazepam and dropped me down to 2mg then stopped me there! I was like "no way, you can't do this to me" but the doctor thought he knew best as he's a DR! And I know my body best and I know what stopping Subs is all about! Needless to say, it was hell! I was ill. Anyway's, after 4 days, I begged them to give me something to help me with the withdrawals and the clever doctor offered to put me back on a low dose of subutex! I absolutely refused point blank after 4 days off them! So he gave me lofexidine. They were amazing and helped me through the last few days of withdrawals. Tel has tried a few times since I've been out to stop the subs on a tiny dose (about 0.5mg) and he gets to two days and is just ill again. It's awful. He's been on the subs for months this time as we've tried all sorts as I said and our drug worker swore to us that if we stayed on them longer, it would be easier to come off but that's just not been the case for us. It was just as bad, whatever way we did it. I know there's no pain free way of coming off H but Subutex/Suboxone is still really hard to come off. The symptoms aren't as strong as cold turkey but certainly for me, they were all there, just a bit less pronounced but it was relentless and seemed to drag on forever! Subs are amazing when you are on them and using them properly but I've never ever had an easy taper and neither has T. It was easier for me as I was in rehab, 50 miles away from where I live so when I was feeling ill, I could put u with it because of the old "out of sight, out of mind thing" but when you feel like that and you're just a phonecall away, it's really hard. I have never been offered lofexidine in the 7 years I've been using and trying to get clean through the drug service/GP's /detox etc. until this time and I know it's an old drug. For me, it was the icing on the cake and I can only speak for myself here but I don't understand why this isn't used more, I think this is an amazing combo. This is all personal oppinion incase I p*ss someone off by the way!
Does anyone have any experience of lofexidine? I know it was widely used years ago but not anymore. Anyone know why? Have I missed something? T wants this enough, I'm sure he'll do it. We are going in, keep watch for us lol!!!! Will let you know how things go. If Tel doesn't feel up to it, I can give you guys updates. I know how much this board has helped me over the years, especially in the early days after detox. It was my lifeline at one point. Some of you guys are still here now *waves*
Good luck from me too T, you know I'll be running you plenty hot baths and anything else I can do to help! Linz xx

I googled up lofexidine- - and the below explains what its all about- - It seems that it is used in the UK - since 2003- - I dont know if its used in the states. It also looks like they give it to you with another drug- - non- addictive- - hey , if it works thats great- - sounds like we should be using it over here >if its non-addictive and it works- even a little bit.

Cheers Jack, that's really interesting. I don't understand why if it's not addictive, they don't use it for people coming off subs as it worked a treat for me (after being left to suffer for 4 days)!
I just wish the drug service/medical profession would listen to addicts sometimes. I know there are plenty of con artists out there just trying to scam them for anything they can get but we know our bodies and I think it's fair to say, more about most drugs than half of them! Last time I went to my drug service, I was addicted to H and to Valium. So they said ok, we'll put you on suboxone and when you give us 2 clean opiate samples, we'll do a valium detox! But I had to buy the valium off my H dealer so i could only ever manage one clean sample! They were dangling a carrot in front of me! I went to them dual addicted so why the hell do they only want to fix one of them? Moron's! I ended up telling them in these exact words, to "stick the valium up their arses" and I came off them myself! I actually gave up on the service after this and went to rehab!
