hi, i am wanting to try and come off gear myself. i have already done detox clinice a year ago, adn messed up by getting back on it. i have reduced my habit so that a bag (.35) lasts 2 days, which is pretty good! ive got 12 2mg subutex - my parents know which helps so can go adn have a nightmare at theirs. i also work. so my plan was to get onto the subutex and reduce, with my last half a table coinciding with thurs night/fri am, so i have the weekend to feel crap, and hopefully be alright-ish for work on monday am. does anyone out there have exp of doing detox at home, or know enough about subutex to know if what im thinking could work? any help or just experiences of getting off gear would be hugely appreciated - thank you!
Hey Hi!,
My name is Darin and I am a recovering herion addict. I detoxed at home but I did it cold turkey. It was not easy but it taught me that I NEVER have to go through that again as long as I make the CHOICE not to use ever again. The best way to start is to give yourself a chance. Add to that a commitment and a will to live and no matter how you get off the gear......you will get clean and be free! Keeping busy and changing your old behaviors is an added bonus so you are off to a great start. Also drink PLENTY fluids(water tops) and eat fruits and veggies......if you have a juicer that would help a great deal! If you do these things along with your subs detox then you are giving yourself a fighting chance.

Hey there HI!
Same as darin I did it at home cold turkey, man it was the worst. I just kept telling myself if I can get through another hour I'll be okay. Drink plenty of fluids, green tea, or peppermint tea, anything with anti-oxidants, you want to get that crap out of your system!!! It took about 7 days for the physical withdrawl symptoms to go away, but you've got some sub so it shouldn't be so bad. Hot baths work well, since you will be depressed you can sit in your tub alone and cry all you want without anyone being upset about it, and the hot water will do at least something for your leg pain. When I was able to eat again I had lots of chocolate about, it makes you feel a little better if only for 30 secs, but that 30 secs feels like an eternity when you are going through withdrawls. Take motrin, it actually helps although I know you are probably thinking, motrin, what the hell is that going to do? Motrin takes care of some of the bone pain. Try to avoid mirrors, your pupils are going to be seriously dialated, and well, that use to make me really upset, thought I looked like a monster!!! Good luck, and keep posting

hi there is not a lot more that i can say than fatms and trooper because i did the same as them.but i do recommend cold turkey for the first few days just to remind you of why you dont want to do this again!
Hey Hi,
Recovering heroin addict here too......it's good your parents know.....you have someone to sort of keep you homebound.....straight up.....it is a nightmare, but nothing we all didn't get through......all the things, Darin, and Trooper mentioned.....fluids, fluids......the INSOMNIA for me was the worst part....if I'd have known what to expect I would have been better able to cope.....you won't sleep....you can't force it.....even twenty minutes take it.....watch the TV or write or GET ON HERE!!!!!!!
You can do this, and you are going to cry is right...I promise it goes away too eventually......sorry I don't know the subs, but you are in the right direction....worst scenario.....you miss work...have mom call you in or something.....just keep going.....we'll help you through.....hang on.

thanks guys! it's really good to know that some people have actually done it! since my first (and only) detox cost 3000, i can't really do that again - plus if i actually suffer, it might be the final reason to NEVER go back on it.
will post how its going when i get started = im aiming for tomorrow/wed. i know i know, tomorrow yeah whatever, but that's the aim.
to all of you who posted, and who didn't but might be reading, i got clean and buggered it up and now i only have to go and do it all again. no matter how s***ty or bored or fed up you feel, you will feel 100 times worse getting back on it. its worse 2nd time, as theres no fun at the beginning, it's just crap from start to end, and you feel so disappointed in yourself too. im sure you guys will stay clean, but i just thought i'd add that as a "been there, done it and totally regretted it" kind of advice. keep up the good work you should be so damn proud of yourselves!

Good Luck, kid--I've never used Subs but kicked alotta times @ home.Very good you have a low tolerance. I wrote a few posts a short while ago called "Feed Yr. Head", all about my experiences/experiments on myself w/ Food. How it seemed to make my withdrawl symptoms not so bad, how I was able to establish a sleep pattern, quicker than I ever had before. You may want to go back & look them up. I also reccommend exercise:no crazy Iron Man stuff-just walking, maybe light weights, like lifting a kilo bag of flour.Sounds nutty maybe but @ this point we don't care, as long as it might help. I reccommend Magnesium for leg cramps, & that-all-over-tenseness.I took one & within 1 hour felt better. It sure can't hurt.Your head sounds like its in the right place & THAT is 90% of the battle, in my opinion. GOOD LUCK! Keep Posting!
I went private and did a 12 week home detox. First detox attempted ever after 14 years and it was the right chioce for me. Worked perfectly but I had to be strict. I got my fornightly subs script and had to take them myself. I felt so good on the subs that I didnt want anything else. 12 months coming up now - I still find boredom hard to cope with - as long as I keep busy I am ok. Still crave to get smashed but I know that using gear is something that I can not ever do.
Dont mean to bum you out or discourage you in any way, and remember everyone is different- but I couldnt do it. I tried with all the best intentions to detox off a long time heroin /methadone habit at home. The plan was to get low enough on the mdone to move to subutex and take it from there.
Well it never got that far. I got down to 25 mg of mdone (from 80) and then bugged out and went back up to 35 mg. Ive been on that 35mg for awhile now. I dont use anything else, and still fight that urge from time to time.
You know you,re in for a tough run. I guess I would suggest that you keep yourself surrounded with positive people and positive thoughts as much as you can. We are are own worst enemy,so being alone is not a good thing.
With the physical part ,you know the misery. The mental part, well that for me was the toughest-
It can ,and has, been done- millions of time by millions of people.
All the best- keep in touch
muchrespect,
jack

well, ran out last night so got first day ahead getting on to the subs. sure they're fine, but i know they're not quite like juice! did you ever find that with all your intentions during the day, sometimes you just find yourself going and getting things on automatic! strange - o well, got to be prepared for it. i kow it could all go wrong, i mean, i have had a few sort of attempts that ended with "o sod it!". but it's got to happen at some point - i do want to so why does it happen that as soon as you don't have it you think, maybe its not so bad. mind tricks! anyway, it really helps reading all of you who have/have not done it - whatever, its the effort that counts. and matey on juice, that's still pretty damn good!!!
Hi there, my daughter is doing ambulatory detox as we speak, and so far it seems to be working, she says that the subutex is really nasty and u have can not swallow for about 10 to 15 minutes and then after that u cannot drink anything for 20 minutes. But I am sure hoping this will work, she says that she will never touch herion or any type of drug again. So hang in there and everything will be ok.
Cold turkey works for some people, weaning for others.
Your reduction of your habit is a good start.
Keeping busy helps, having support of non-addict/user friends helps. Your family sticking by you helps.
It all helps.
Sometimes we slip. Thats ok - just fight it tooth and nail as much as possible. You can quit. You can beat this.
I've been clean for 'bout a year and a half now. Sometimes its hard but the first thing I do is talk to someone I know who knows what all I've been through and will help me stay afloat and away from it.
S'my advice. You just take it one step at a time. You do what you gotta do t'stay strong and kick that addiction because if I can do it (heavy user for 9 years) then you can.

Hi there to the person planning the home detox, hope it's going well.
I did bare clucks countless times at home. I would suggest trying to plod on as far as possible as normal- don't just lie on the sofa doing the dying swan thing. It just makes it worse. try and learn a relaxation technique for the nights (omg the nights were the worse!) Something like tensing and relaxing the muscles in your body, start at your toes and work your way up. Take your time, you're not sleeping anyway! One time, I had not slept for 14 nights and after doing this I got 2 hours sleep. Bliss. I would stongly recommend you get hooked up with a support group. This might be a drop-in locally, a relapse prevention group at your DAT or other agency, your GP might know of something, or a 12 step group. All the times I tried to cluck I failed until i realised I needed peer support. With likeminded souls on my side i have stayed clean and sober for nearly 6 years.
Hang tough

Hello and congratulations for placing yourself first; first before drugs; first before pain; first before sorrow and despair. You deserve to feel good about yourself and you can stop beating yourself up for making mistakes. I give you permission to be happy and free and straight. You will succeed! I believe in you because you are a good and a kind worthy person! First you have to love yourself and forgive yourself, and then you will be set free. Do you remember how good it felt to be free? Free of worry, free of regret and free to be happy. Once you truly love yourself you will be free to love and respect others and they will love and respect you in return. You will have a life to be proud off and you will have real friends not just drug acquaintances who tell you what you want to hear.
*Home detox tips* drink plenty of water (not tea or coffee) *keep yourself warm and have hot showers or a hot Radox herbal bath (valerian or skullcap and rosemary, lavender) as often as you can! *Helps your aching muscles and relaxes your mind to sleep *spoil yourself with your favourite foods and drinks. (no alcohol).*have someone you love give you a rub or massage your back, bottom of feet, hands, arms and legs with herbal oils that will relax and take away stressful pain. * Burn relaxing oils in an oil burner (lavender, rosemary, lemongrass, rose, or whatever you decide *only listen too positive cds about good calm music, relaxation, meditation or self hypnosis tapes are perfect if listened to everyday for at least 6 weeks straight. * Only watch dvds of comedies, jokes and comedians. *do not listen to TV or the news as it is too depressing. *write a wish list of everything you have always wanted since you were a small child. *write and read positive messages to yourself and place them everywhere you look. *keep reinforcing those messages, repeat them at least 10 times each before going to sleep. *I am good, I am strong, I love myself, I deserve to be happy and I am happy, I am free, A new job will be offered to me, I am going to meet new friends who are supportive and loving and kind, I am going to have a beautiful car, I am going to live in a comfortable house; it is coming my way soon in the loveliest tree lined street with a dog and cat and so on. You get the picture. If you want it, it will come. Change your negative thoughts into positive ones. Every time you think something bad, sad or negative just say STOP and redirect your thoughts onto your wish list. You can not help those negative thoughts from popping into your mind from time to time however you can control if you choose to listen to them or not! Think about that one. Good Luck. Life wasnt meant to be easy however it was meant to be lived to the fullest and we are meant to feel every minute of our lives. So, stop numbing yourself with drugs, and learn to enjoy the sad and bad days as they make the rest of our normal, boring, and happy days even more enjoyable!

Hi, I hope you are doing well with your home detoxing, don't forget 2 steps forward and 1 step backwards is ok!
It won't be as easy as shelling peas but it will be worth it! The worse part isn't the aches and pains, the sleepless nights, or the cravings.
It is remembering, it is having a clear mind that can think and remember things; you know what I mean; things you did and regret, and you will want to start beating yourself up over your guilt and sadness. And you will want to use to numb the pain.
Instead try to imagine you are being reborn; Imagine instead of your mother delivering you and feeling all the contractions and physical pain she went through you are instead feeling those symtoms.
The good part is at the end of that pain is something great to look forward too. It is you giving yourself a new beginning! How fantastic we can do that!
It is never too late to make that decision! Once you get your head around forgetting the past and starting that new beginning you will be happier than you ever were in the past.
You are now a better, more humble and compassionate person because of your painful journey.

It is a brave person who can see a problem and change it. I am now on a program and it is going along ok. I do the drill, you know what I mean, I get up in the afternoon, I have a shower, go to the chemist and return home to eat my first meal for the day at around 4 - 5 pm. I usually stay up all night and sleep away the days, and repeat the same. It's like living in ground hog day! At least I am not using everyday like before. I just can't get my head around stopping the program. I still hang out when I skip a day and I start thinking about using. I hope you make it. My only advice is to be strong and do whatever it takes to stay clean.
