PAD is a narrowing of the peripheral arteries, most common in the arteries of the pelvis and legs. PAD is similar to coronary artery disease (CAD) and carotid artery disease. All three of these conditions are caused by narrowed and blocked arteries in various critical regions of the body. Hardened arteries (or atherosclerosis) in the coronary artery region, restricts the blood supply to the heart muscle. Carotid artery disease refers to atherosclerosis in the arteries that supply blood to the brain.

Now ,Im not a doctor, but my right leg ,up by my thigh has been numb for a month now- maybe longer. I thought it was just from lack of activity- - unemployment hasn't kept me too active ya know-
So, now Im getting paranoid- -I smoke too much , and that is a bad thing for this .
I dont have insurance anymore( oh how the mighty have fallen)- -so Im just going in and tell them I need to see a doctor -tell them my symptoms and concerns -and see what the deal is--
Man, all this after I left the dentist today, who told me that its time to take out 2 more teeth- and add fake ones to my "flipper"
A long time ago ,I had 2 teeth knocked out with a hockey puck- - now because of a gum problem that I didnt take care of - I am going to have top dentures(more or less-4 false teeth)
Jack, is falling apart people- - All these maladies popping up are stressing me out- on top of the normal stress-
At least I don't do dope anymore- -that certainly is a plus.
Getting older sucks- at least I have a full head of hair- OK- maybe a lot of grey ,but Id rather lose my hair than my teeth.
Oh well- -all can be fixed. I think this PAD will get better with meds and exercise (and I gotta stop smokin)
The teeth?? - Well with the top dentures in- -Ill have a movie star smile-
Its just that all this takes time- -and the holidays are comin-
Oh boy- - I guess Ive been thru worse
Let youse know what happens
jack
Jack, we are of an age and I feel ya, pal.
However....I also know that most of of the health problems I have or have had (other than Grave's Disease) are mostly of my own making, and can probably be undone by, as you suggested, giving up butts and moving around more. My husband is like Mr. Healthy...same weight as when we married, everything that should be low is low, everything that should be high is high...WTF...so unfair.
I'm glad you're going to the hospital instead of letting it go because of the insurance. You could always move to Massachusetts...we have state insurance and all are covered.
Peace, pal ~ M&M

Oh man, Jack. On no! I wish you wouldn't wait until tomorrow although ya waited quite sometime didn't you?
H*ll with that. Go right in there and tell them you have no feeling in your leg and a pain in your chest. Maybe that will get you seen faster. I'm not trying to put anymore on you, but I've seen it being in them emergency rooms enough.
Too bad. No insurance? They have to see you. Half the fr*akin world does that now because they have to. No insurance here either and last time I went in through the emergency ward they said they'd set up a plan. Well, O.K. then.
Jack, right now I am saying a prayer. I'm very glad you are going. PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW YOU MADE OUT ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, you're Italian. That virgin olive oil saves the day. Oh and teeth? Don't be worrying about your teeth. Although gum/teeth stuff has to do with heart related things. Not that you have it.
STRESS!!!!!!!!! Ya think?
Again sending much love and care and concern. Please be O.K. Da*n leg numb all this time.

OK- i JUST CAME BACK A LIITLE WHILE AGO FROM THE HOSPITAL- they gave me a cat-scan and a bunch of tests- but no blood tests??
Anyway- the verdict is I have a ruptured disk in my back- -that is causing this numbness & pain in my right leg..
I still would like to check out my circulatory system- to make sure all is well, but hey- they the pros - they tell me pressure against the nerves near the spine is causing this problem- -well OK Ill go with it I guess..- - -I have to get this muscle relaxing prescription below >>>>
Chlorzoxazone belongs to a class of drugs called muscle relaxants. It is thought to work on the nerves to relieve muscle pain. It may also relieve pain by calming your nervous system.
ManOMan- How does this sh7t happen??

hub has had lots of experience in the area...is the disc in the lumbar region? thats the lower back..he takes muscle relaxers every night, there are alot of options other than straight out pain med, he goes in every 4 months for nerve blocks (broken his back twice, neck twice) also we both swear by a topical product called bio freeze sometimes heat will feel good but may cause swelling that will also put pressure on the nerve so follow with a little ice. good you went into the hospital, ya never know...to make ya feel better you dont have to be old to rupture a disc, it just helps lol
Thanks momg
yes --"the Lumbar region"- - they gave me this big ol pamphlet to read- - along with these scripts
I'm up at 2 30 am because I tried to sleep on my side like they told me to- - but the mattress is too soft- it was torture
I usually sleep on the couch- -and that's were I'm going to be again- -
any info you get get me from your husbands trials and tribulations would be helpful
thanks

I should stay off wedMD.COM- - i start reading from that site- and I think I have every problem in the book

Oh this is just freakin whoop ain't it?
Jack, I thought of you all day I am so sorry I wasn't on. Mom ilness stuff.
Anyway, GET OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know it's a mircale that they found it's a disc in your back. They probably did that poking thing to make sure you didin't have MS. Although in men I think MS starts in the early 30's.
O.K. how do I know this? This happened to me when I used. I had what's called "Drop Foot". NO FEELING from my knee down. I thought holy crap I woke up wedged between my bed and a book shelf face down in skin tight jeans and I cut my da*n circulation off.
Oh and it didn't hurt I had on to the knee boots funky as all he*l that laced all the way up the front. At the ER they thought maybe those boots cut off circulation.
Essentially for MONTHS I walked around where I had to throw my leg out.
Doctor after Doctor gave me all kinds of tests until finally one Neurologist was like "Did anyone give you and MRI of your back"? Nope. Comes to be I go back to him the next day. He says "Young lady you are one lucky girl. You have a ruptured disc that's on a nerve root". So, they you can actually be alright when those muscles relax and the inflamatiion goes down around the disc.
Blessed Be mine did but it took months. Oddly my da*n back didn't hurt at all.
Jack was your back hurting?
My back hurt prior to "Drop Foot" or what I diagnosed myself as having "Potts fracture" BUT when I was totally numb oddly my back was fabulous.
Jack, sorry to go on about me but well I'm self-centered BUT I think it would help letting you know. That's amazing they found out right away. Not amazing you have it though.
WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack, did you have this prior to doing the delivery truck thingie?
The day before this all happened at work I had to get in a little truck and pull some boxes out. Not heavy. Girls fancy dresses. The back of the truck I had to stoop though for not to hit my head. Plus instead of pulling them out I turned and pushed them. I mean to this day I have no idea if it was that or me so high I fell asleep like I did or an old injury come back from cheerleading.
Just odd I kind of thought Hmmmmmmmmmm truck.
Well at least you're not having a da*n heart attack.
Still it's scary and no matter what they tell you I soooooooo wouldn't let them operate on me.Surgery or no surgery.
MUSCLE RELAXERS! Not sure if that's the one my brother had. He doesn't take an asprin but he's a mail carrier and again this is age. Messed his back up so ba he couldn't SIT. My nephew was getting married so he had to be there. The muscle relaxers they gave him I forget the name. I looked at them and told my SIL I recall taking them while getting high and they don't do a thing.
Flexiril or SOMA? Then I may be bit worried for ya. Well, Flexeril ya'd propbably just go to baby night night.
SOMA dear Lord ask Tres about the time I took ten at once and then did three bags of dope. Mind you that didn't give me no drop foot.
We get clean and we get messed the heck up.
Oh well at one of those next visits demand they do bloods. Bood work and urine's can tell so much. Weird they didn't do any.
Glad you are semi O.K.. Sir, I think you may have freakin "Drop Foot". Some name right? Naw, you don't. Little by little you may start to feel your leg itch before getting the feeling back.
That's my disertation and hey well good they ain't worried about insurance. You worked long and hard enough to have earned at least that. Ain't your da*n fault the economy took your insurance. Well, maybe my prayers worked a little. I was worried about your heart.

my husband deals with neck and back..he never took much for pain (occ vicodin, said it didnt really ever work) they actually have him on a combo of neurontin, skelaxin and for flare ups they added naprosyn (anaprox, for swelling) My hub always says the harder the sleeping surface, the better, he sleeps on the couch all of the time. he also lays on his back , pulls up his thighs and gently stretches his lower back that way..his usual night always includes some walking around and stretching in the middle of the night, for the headaches and back pain he goes to a pain clinic for nerve root injections every 4 months but that is only because currently has good insurance. doctors told him everything from hed be in a wheelchair to live with the pain, all crap he finally got a good doc in Ann Arbor Michigan and his life is better. They even put him through a sleep course that included visualization tapes (meditation and suggestion tapes that talk you through relaxation muscle by muscle) he has good and bad days and has learned to adjust for the most part, he found he couldnt do certain twisting movements or any type of overexertion because he would pay for it later. he still tells ya that bio freeze is a great product V's back is S1-L1-5, a fracture in T5, C3, C4 and a fusion not to demean yours, but to give you hope that there are things that can help the pain other than just drugs or surgery!! ask questions if you want, hes been through it all
Jack, I'm so glad you went and at least have an answer. I don't recall you saying you'd been having back pain...are you one of those uncomplaining types...a stoic?
I was having a tweaked hip/back that started in late August and ran through to October - that stuff never happens to me, my back is strong. Well, I toughed it out for about a month with no sleep and constant pain - it felt like one leg was longer than the other. Anyhow, I grabbed a bottle of Flexoril from my ma's house, she took one pill and got sick...I've taken it before loooong ago and though, "God, I'd do anything for some relief and sleep!" What I got was a pill hangover that wasn't worth the relief...I was bummed...worked the last time, but not this time.
I hope whatever you've got works and gives you some relief...but I can't imagine the cuich is doing you any good at all. My best relief comes from sleeping with a body pillow.
Peace ~ M&M

Flexoril? Pill hangover? So not worth it is right.
M&M in all honesty and I am not proud of it even before I did drugs I had some funkadoo system. Example having my ovary removed as a teen right out of high school. They bring me up from surgery and my mom and the Nurses are like "Did they even put her to sleep?" Oh who knows my mother said Ihave the constitution of those biological people who donated their DNA to me.
Anyway and I am not proud again, but I can take about four of something a person takes one of. Addict behavior indeed. Still this is prior to heroin even, BUT and I add a huge BUTT LOL them Flexoril knocked me on my butt. Lights out. Baby night night. Only those and Klonopin. They gave me Klonopin when my dad 302'd me. Man, I could have been abducted by aliens and wouldn't have known it. I have never to this day again took a Klonopin.
Back to me!!!! LOL
Jack, I think you did this on that truck. I'm psychic.
Ya know Howard Stern always touts his Doctor Starno book I think is the Doc's name. I never got the book, but he swore by it.
Look at MomG's hubby went through. Hey, I may have a ruptured disc but wasn't nobody getting at my back. My friend went through years of living he*l with all kinds of fusions and levels and it just goes on and on. If you can live with it then I'd say ummmmmm yoga.
No kidding maybe yoga once you can feel or feel better. That's scary ain't it the numbness. I so swore I had like a stroke or something. They gave me a walker and all. Beats that sciatica if ya ask me. Like I said my brother is like you and M&M. Stoic, never complaining. That pain was written all over his face. He couldn't sit in his jeep for work. Couldn't drive. He's way better now, but I flinch when he comes over to take out an airconditioner or move something here or fix something.
Well, we are old. Plain and simple. I hope you feel better and I don't think you have any heart stuff. I just got a feeling you don't. Nope, nit us recovering heroin addicts. great hearts. Just our bones fall apart. Although I'd get that all checked while you're at it. My dad had that gum disease stuff. The cut in his gums and stitched them up. He though had diabetes. Then he goes and has a full blown killer heart attack at 61. Although again I think that was stress. They say that gum/teeth stuff is related to the heart though.
Ohhhhhhhhh I hope I made ya feel better.
LOL
Mom of Brynn is O.K. A little PO'd she can't get out and do her shopping. Mad she can't make it up to the mailbox. Although it was a real pleasure when I took curtains down, put them in the wash, hung them outside. I come up and the couch is moved. She moved the freakin couch. Like ummmmmmmm lady why couldn't you have just done the dises or dusted? Nope has to move a couch. My brother says she does it on purpose to stay sick so I won't leave her and have a life. Yeah I yelled. Yeah the guy who lives next door no doubt heard me. Gave me a weird look. If it happens again I'm gonna tell him to come the he*l in here and deal with it.
Look how many times we used the word "back" in all these posts.

I include you as well in my prayers tonight. I can relate to back pain, it sure sucks. But I am SO GLAD that it's not your heart! After all you ARE the Jack of Hearts!!
I hope you're getting around easier. Also, quitting smoking is a rough one.....I am down to about a half pack a day. Search the web for images of what lungs look like after 10 years of smoking and what normal "non-smoking" lungs look like and you will cut back REAL quick. That's what I did!!! I only had 2 smokes today!
PEACE, LOVE & PRAYERS

Dilaudid, that's what they gave my mom 90 of for her knee replacement...just lying around the house, except for the ones she takes prior to her twice weekly PT sessions. Strong stuff. They gave the DD Klonopin when she was 12...that's right, 12 years old...because she had a pretty serious sleep disorder. Then I did my research and terminated that doc's @ss.

i GOTTA TELL YOUSE,I was just so glad that my arteries weren't clogged, that the news of a herniated disk -was like GOOD news-
Yeah- lite exercise, a firm mattress(for ME -its the couch) and I will talk to my brother Mark about Yoga(he goes to these sessions once a week)- -
So that's that- -I don't need any meds- - Like I said the pain is hackable- it always there, but never real bad- - Ill try to think of it like- - I just have a bad back, like 1/2 the world- -
I'm not overweight (maybe I could lose 10 lbs )- I eat well- -I just need to do my walking laps, like I used too- - at least until I begin steady employment
Momg- Did they tell your Husband that he should have surgery??- Man , a broken back- and a broken neck???- Thats sounds pretty dam serious to me- -Hell, I'm gettin 2 more false teeth and I'm freakin out- - never mind a broken neck-
I think most of us guys, put a lot of sh*t off for a long time- Like Sandra said, I knew I had this back pain for awhile, but it wasnt till my leg went numb did I get worried- -and even then 2 months had passed.- -Then I thought it was something else- - I dont remember getting a medical degree- -but I'm always diagnosing myself- -lol- This Internet lets you do that with all the medical sites
Anyway- -a little rest and Ill be back in the saddle -as they say- -
see youse latar
jack
Edit->
-Oh yeah- -These fuqkin cigarettes have got to go!!- -I see this ad for something called the E-cigarette- -its just water vapor. Anyone hear about this???

Anyway- -a little rest and Ill be back in the saddle -as they say- -
see youse latar
jack
Edit->
-Oh yeah- -These fuqkin cigarettes have got to go!!- -I see this ad for something called the E-cigarette- -its just water vapor. Anyone hear about this???
V did have surgery on the broken neck but not on the back..they could never say he would be better after surgery so he guts it out and has learned to tolerate the pain,,unless he does stupid sh** which he knows he is going to pay for, the big thing is not pissin off the nerve and having it swell..thats what the stretching and the naproxyn help wit (non steroidal anti inflammatory) I think aleve may be over the counter..let the disc heal and decompress off of the nerve and you will prob get some feeling back on the leg..good luck, its hell on the body getting old eh>
Thanks- Thats the plan**
Of course some days are better than others, but like your husband >Ill tough it out. I try not to do something stupid and make it worse. Now that Im aware of whats going on- -
I cant imagine your hubbie breaking his neck AND his back- man that is a double dose of painful parts to be breaking.
OK-I feel like Ive been sitting to long now, with bad posture- - so I got to get off this net, as If been on it for about 2 1/2 hours now- -Geez ,sometimes I think I got no life-

You know, D, I've been giving this smoking nonsense a lot of thought lately with the new grandbaby around so much...I'm tired of how I smell, the expense, all of it...I'm going for it and I thank you for posting this...it is exactly what I needed to hear tonight.
I'm going with this one, Jack.
I'm going with this one, Jack.
Jack you have a good outlook on everything. Yes you do. A bad back is what you have.
Your brother goes to yoga? You will love it. I guarantee. That's if they say you are allowed. It's very gentle.
O.K. you men. You do put off stuff. My gentleman friend. He's got no ACL. None. Post-op at home "waited" to see if his knee blown up like a float in the Thanksgiving parade would go down. In the shower pulls a screw on a blue piece of what looks like clothesline right out his leg. W@inds up almost losing his leg. Guy never complains. Says to me the other night. "Man I've had this pain right here". Points to his kidney. Dude has osteomylitis so always has blood tests. Creatinine has been high.
I'm a bloomin Nurse. I say "Wait. I feel the muscle. I go over to his spine and BAM he's like "What are you nuts? What is that?" A disc. He's like "Maybe I messed up a disc". Maybe you should lose 100 pounds, throw out your couch that no joke is sitting on the floor almost it's so indented. He's very good to myself and my family. I need him around:) Maybe he can join Jack for yog.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh but he quit his three pack a day habit about three years ago. No problem. Always on my tail about quitting.
Well, grandmom died. No more dilaudid for her. Weird how I posted that and she died. My Uncle called to tell ask "Does your mom want to go to the crematorium to see her body?"
Duh, dude she can't make it down the da*n steps. No my mom said she wants to remember her own mother in a good way.
Sorry Jack this was about you. Just weird how I posted that and now grandmom passed.
