How long before you became physically addicted?

I was watching The Wright Stuff yesterday morning and they said that according to some government statistics, it took 12 months to become physically addicted to heroin. I nearly choked on my cornflakes! 12 months!! What planet are they on! I just get a bit annoyed when I hear all this false information, from people who haven't got a clue. So I thought I'd pose the question to those of us who live in the real world!

Hello Diff...12mnth. is deff. strechting it a lot,when i 1st. took smack it was as a comedown drug after a heavy wknd.raving..but the days when i took it became closer&closer..so..after bout a mnth. i noticed the symtoms of withdrawl when i didnt have any..also i started off smoking it..which as you know isnt the most cost effective way of doin it..so takes a bit longer to gain a habit.Take care.....Davey

If I was taking it everyday, I would be feeling very ill after a week, and that was my first time, now with my addiction I would be ill after 3 days. If I was clean for a year, it would take about a week.

Hi Diff how have you been, going cold turkey again, nightmare, it's like a never ending circle.

I 1st took H as a come down drug too for speed/coke/meth ...Unlike most I started out using on a daily i was very navie about how powerful H was. I was dating a heavy long time addict he brought me home a 20 everyday "at the begining". I was already using coke i.v before he introduced me to H. Because i was using EVERYDAY from the very start the 1st time i was without was about 15 days in I got a little sick and emotional I called him crying for him to bring me ANYTHING even a cotton lol. I was without that whole day my tolerence was already getting up it was not cheap anymore for him to keep me high he started avoiding me and not coming home after a month of constant use. When he left GOD I was sick i ended up 3 days in a mental hospital. Right out of the hospital i statred getting dope on my own. I would say after 2 weeks i was getting addicted after a month there was no turning back I started the stupid sh&*t to get dope on my own. After nearly 3 1/2 years of use losing everything being homeless losing my kids I went to methadone treatment. I think """possibly"" it could take 3-6 months if you ONLY used now and then AND were not banging it up...there is no way it takes a year if you shoot it and use everyday it happens much faster then that.

I started sniffing the stuff for a few months - I never really stopped long enough to feel bad. When I started shooting it I noticed that I started feeling really bad after about 2 weeks -tops.

I also found out that the 1 bag I was doing wasnt keeping me from being sick.
So once the needle was thrown into the mix,it wasnt too long before I really found out what "dope sick" was

The realization for me was when I went to cop alone then I really knew that I had a problem and needed the stuff to feel normal.

Hard to say for me, started with the vicodin and percs...........then when they stopped working found oxycontin..........would say I became addicted to these in a week or two and then when I could afford them no more, moved on to the more inexpensive heroin

IMMEDIATELY, and I mean that.

My wonderful boyfriend fortunately for me copped six bags. Got sick on half a bag and said hand me more.

Once those were gone I had mild withdrawl and had not a clue what it was. Man, I wished I never learned.

****Side note. That Tres with her oxy's. What a nightmare kick for her. Glad I did not see it because her dope sick under her stupid cover in the car worked a nerve. Love ya with my whole heart honey, but your blanket had to go.***********
