Alcohol Screening Questions
Am I drinking safely? Will alcohol cause problems for me later? Is drinking harming my health now? Among people who drink alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, or liquor), most consume safe and healthy amounts. For others, unsafe drinking patterns increase their risk for injury, illness or future alcohol problems. And, for 1 in 13 American adults, alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence (alcoholism) causes substantial harm to their health and disruption in their lives.
If you consume alcoholic beverages, it's important to know whether your drinking patterns are safe, risky or harmful. This tool can help you find out. Answering these twelve questions will take only a few minutes, and will generate personalized results based on your age, gender and drinking patterns. Your responses are completely confidential and anonymous. See the privacy policy for more information.
The questions below refer to your use of alcoholic beverages within the past year. Answer the questions as honestly and accurately as you can. One drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or one standard cocktail (1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor).
Thanks Gina for the information. I've been at the point of convincing myself that I am a heavy/problem drinker and not an alcoholic but taking this survey has convinced me that whether I am one or the other I am still risking my health. I am still struggling with whether I think I can drink or not. I have been able to cut back tremendously and can have just one drink when I decide to but I have days when I will drink a lot more because I've told myself it was OK that day. I don't know if I'm in denial or borderline. This test tells me I definetely have a problem. What I do with this knowledge I know is up to me. I guess it's time for another meeting.
