How Much Vicodin Is Considered "addiction"?

I'm new here. I've been on varying doses of vicodin for 6 months for a broken arm. I've been severely depressed lately and also take zoloft and wellbutrin. How much vicodin is too much? What are "withdrawal symptoms"? I feel bad emotionally most days.

Too much is when you're taking it other than prescribed and for reasons other than what it is prescribed for.

Are you taking it to feel better emotionally?

Have you had addiction issues in the past?

Do you drink too much?

Are you seeing a therapist for your depression?

I've never had addiction issues in the past. I don't drink alcohol. I take it about 80% of the time to "feel good" emotionally, 20% of the time for physical pain. I'm not taking that much, I don't think, but keep going back to it when I feel so sad. Not seeing a therapist now, but have in the past quite a bit. I'm just feeling so weak and I used to be so strong.....

You are one of the lucky ones..you are reconginizing a problem here and getting a grip before it gets out of control. Stop taking them now. And I do mean now. Use OTC meds for your pain and flush the vics.

Call a counselor today. You need to talk, not take drugs.

There are so many of us here that would give our first born (not really) to be able to go back in time and stop this horrible way of life before it got started.

You wanted advice, this is it. I can't tell you how awful this disease is and have you understand it fully. If you keep on this path of distruction, you'll have first hand knowledge of what I'm talking about. Don't go there.

Thanks for your advice, Cowgirl. I'm going to go have a long talk with myself before I do anything else, then hopefully continue in the right direction. I appreciate your honesty.

If your taking it to 'feel good' 80% of the time, then YOUR DEFINATELY TAKING IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS. Now before you ruin your life one those tiny little pills like so many other people on here have, get off them before its to late.

Im not joking either, you may think Im talking stupid but just read some of the other stories on here and your'll see why taking them for feeling good is very wrong.

hi mid,i myself was takeing sinus medication with ibuprofin in it for sinus problems but continued takeing it for 1 year at 200mg 4 pills every other day simply cuz they made me feel good.and now since i stoped takeing them about 1 month ago i feel iam paying the price for feeling good.i hurt all over my body muscle aches,bone aches,and i broke out in hives all over my body,infact the hives got so bad i was embarresed to be seen by anybody.although they have cleared up somewhat,i still hurt all over my body.so much for feeling good.

Pogo......you seriously need to see a doctor about the ibuprofen thing. That is so dangerous!!

You were taking four 200mg ibuprofen every other day? If so, that doesn't seem like very much to me. Certainly not enough for you to be still suffering from the symptoms you mentioned. I think you posted earlier about spitting up blood also. I'd definitely go see a doctor, and soon, but I'd be very surprised if your continuing symptoms were from ibuprofen withdrawal (assuming there is such a thing in the first place). Good luck to you.

Hey None! pogo had posted earlier he was taking 800 mg. daily for over a year. When he stopped, he was spitting up blood. Just thought it wouldn't hurt to consult a dr. with the blood thing.

Hi Carol, I agree completely. And I have heard that ibuprofen can do some serious damage to the stomach.

I've been doing well. Clean and sober, doing life....you know how it is. Haven't been posting much for various reasons, but still want to try and be available for newcomers. I always enjoy your posts and am so glad for your continued support of folks on the Board. Take care!

Well, we went from vicodin to ibuprofen, but that's okay! I appreciate those of you who wrote and scared the CRAP out of me!!! I am going to throw the remaining pills away NOW. I've "only" been taking maybe two a day, but again, when taken for the wrong reasons, even two is too many. Thanks for the "tough love" and caring enough to write back. I've never been in this position and don't want to go farther. Your frank comments hit home. I didn't know how awful addiction can be. I hope all of you do well and stay clean and sober forever!! I want to research this more to maybe someday help others in my position........
