This is my experience.Different people have different symptoms but all opiates generally have common charcteristics.[from Darvon-Suboxone-Heroin-Methadone and everything in between]
The longer acting opiates like Methadone & Suboxone seem to be the worse.
The shorter acting like Vicodin&Percocet tend to be out of your system faster.
Withdrawing from any of them is not fun.
During the first three-five days I would cancel anything on my calender, including work. The first three days are the worse.Diahrea, muscle aches, dysphoria, ringing in the ears, fatigue, anxiety, chills, and flu like symtoms. The only solution is to take some over the counter meds to counter act some of these. The most important thing to have around is water and gatorade and force yourself to drink it.
Just so you prepare yourself mentally........Nothing will get rid of withdrawl symptoms but another opiate. That is why Methadone and Suboxone are available.
The good news is that this is not a permenant condition. After day 4 and 5 you will start seeing light at the end of the tunnel. It will get better and after it's all said and done, you will have the opiates out of your system. You don't have to go through this at a later date. It's done."Finis".That was the only thing that kept me going.
Then you can start making plans on how to stay sober.
I hope this helps.
Tim, thanks for posting. Yes that helps a lot. I have tried so many times to quit and I think c/t is the only way for me because it is so hard to get off sub and I have a personal problem being on it long term. After so many tries with it and each out come the same failure, there is no way I am going back on that stuff.I have off tomorrow but have to be at work monday mornming, I hope I can do it. Ireally hope I don't cave in sunday night. Thanks again for taking the time to post ti us
Lynn...Some people have success with Sub and Methadone. If you are a chronic relapser, daily heroin user or know in your gut that you won't stay clean,it may be the way to go.
I know some guys at the meeting who have been on Methadone for years. That's the route they chose. They are trying and I can't judge them. Most people who take addiction medicines realize at some point they will want to get off.
Give CT a shot.
Good Luck

Dear Friends,
I just want to add some other things that might help--they did for me.
Sit a tub of hot water the and let sweat help your body get rid of some of the toxins. A bath also helps relax your muscles and eases some of the pain. It is a simple remedy, but it helps. I sat in a hot tub six-seven times a day.
I bought and used melatonin and drank a lot of tea. ( Bigelow makes one with chamomile and mint called "Sweet Dreams" that I love.) I cut up bananas and poured milk on them . I took vitamins.
Exercise, I know...but, it really will help your brain to heal and get those natural endorphins flowing again. Take a walk anything, just get moving.
I started a gratitude journal and I meditated--I tried really hard to think positive thought ie. " I have a healthy drug free body". " Thank you that for this hour ( or morning, or day) without drugs. I asked for guidance and then I looked for it--I found it online, in a song, on TV.
Day 3 was the hardest for me---you will feel better and then as others have said "You will never have to go through this again".
Remember, you cannot use drugs the rest of your life, someday, something will have to change.
Stay strong--you are on your way to a better life.

When I started on methadone I knew nothing about it, I was taking pain pills to get high and found that when I tried methadone, I didn't feel the urge to get high and I was able to get off the fentamyl patches and dilaudids I was using, I was getting scared I would overdose.
Although methadone has helped me stay away from that other stuff, I never realized the dark side of this drug, should had known, I have yet seen a drug that doesn't have a dark side. Made me so lathargic and is the hardest drug I have found to get off of, I've been clean off of everything for a year now, except the methadone. But, been cutting that back and I'm all the way down to 10mg and plan to just take the plunge on Sunday, tomorrow is my last day and I'm completely, finally free from ALL drugs. I don't miss getting high at all, I actually grew to just hate it.
So to everyone on this journey of getting clean I wish you all the best of luck, it's hard work but so worth it. Nothing good ever comes from using drugs, nothing at all.
