I Am An Alcoholic

Hey all,

I have realized, for some time now, that I am an alcoholic. About a year ago I stopped for 2 months. I am out of control, but trying very hard to control my drinking. I have started looking for resources for quitting. My problem is that I am so far along - I will need to medically detox. I cannot do that until June - as I am a school teacher. I have to go to work - cause of my poor attendance due to drinking. I live in SC. Any ideas of good p[laces to go for detox and then after?
Hey Atticus

I cant help with any detox centres as i live in New Zealand but you should be able to suss out some local AA meetings and find out about detox centres from there. Also does your job have a addiction programme as part of its health and safety plan or insurance?
Keep posting and go to meetings if you can as they can give you all you need to hear as long as you listen

South Carolina Centers

Here's a list.
Welcome Atticus...Could you go to your personal doctor and talk to him/her? Maybe even think about detox during a long weekend or spring break? And you could start to attend AA meetings...local f2f support is so helpful...
Also if you are missing work b/c of drinking, your school system could be very supportive of you getting help... Is there a human resource dept or your union rep you could talk to...Keep posting...you have taken the first step...admitting powerlessness over alcohol and your life has become unmanageable...Prayers and hugs...Gina
