I read this entire thread this morning and I am wondering about some of the people who posted on it.
Does Royal Secret still post, and does anyone know how Ed is doing?
Littlebeach, Are you still taking Sub? If not, how was your experience coming off of it?
Flordiagirl, I also live in a very small town, and I am married to a well-known doctor. There is no way I am going to an NA meeting here. There is a larger town 25 miles away and I want to find NA there. I haven't done it yet. Maybe because I don't know my way around that town at all. it's not even on the NA website. I really need to get more motivated and search. Reading your posts have helped me.
Good luck Atlas. Find that meeting and go check it out. Even if you have to go to another town but remember, Betty Ford went to AA and she was married to the President...
Rachel
Rachel makes a GREAT point. Remember to put the Recovery first and what strangers think second. But if you need to I'm sure a short comute to another meeting would be worth it. All the best and congrats on the steps you've been making.
P.S.> I posted this link on the other thread but just in case here it is again: http://www.heroin-detox.com/forum.a....asp?FORUM_ID=4
There's a TON of info on sub there. Take the horror stories with a grain of salt though. The bottom line is, Sub can be a useful tool but you need to treat it with significant respect. All the best.

there are many "notable" people at an AA meeting I attended. Rule of thumb is "who you see here, what you hear here, stays here"
good luck with your meetings
good luck with your meetings
Atlas, getting out of your town for a meeting will benefit you more than I can tell you. Like Janet said, what goes on in the meetings and who attends should stay there. I too, was hesitant on going to meetings, but in the long run, things worked out. Don't get discouraged and don't be ashamed, you are not alone as there are many addicts in this world who are notorious people, just like Rachel said, Betty Ford is a very good example and look at how much she has helped so many people. Another example is John MCain's (sic) wife, she was addicted for years to opiates and she sought out help and is another success story. Take Care.
Dear Atlas,
Sub help me get my life back, I was a 6yr Lortab 10/500 20 - 30 a day user.
I tried the ct route several times and failed. I learned about sub and was lucky to find a dr in my area. I stayed on the sub and attended meetings because you still need the tools to stay clean once you get off the sub. If people at the meetings didnt like that I was on sub I just didnt get into it with them. I am there for the support and to learn another way then the one I was on.
I was on the sub for two months, my dr believes that you can use sub for as long as you need it, I decided to taper off after 2 months on it and the wd were not bad at all. Sub helps the craving but once you stop it they return and you need support more then ever, so it isnt a free ride you have to work at sobriety.
I can honestly say for the first time in 6 years I feel very good, happy and more content then I ever felt while using. I wish you all the best and will be glad to help..................all the Best.shel
