I Dont Agree That You Must Be Tapered Off Of Subox

MY DOCTOR HAS NO PLANS OF TAKING ME OFF OF IT. I DONT WANT TO WEIN OFF OF IT I HAVE TO WORK AND TAKE CARE OF MY BILLS. THERE IS NO LAW THAT SAYS YOU CAN ONLY STAY ON IT FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND THEN YOU MUST GET OFF OF IT. IF IT WORKS FOR YOU THEN GO AHEAD AND KEEP TAKING IT AND LIVING A NORMAL LIFE
LESLISB,
We have had this debate several times on this board. Some will say oh your switching addictions or you should be on it short term. Opinions are like a$$holes I guess, everyone has one! I know you've been on suboxone or something simular for 7 years. I think that is crazy unless you are in severe pain and need it for that purpose. You are now addicted to this pill and need it to function daily! This again is my opinion. I also think it great it's being used in aiding opiate withdrawl but should ONLY be used short term(less than 8-10 weeks). That is how long I would use it if I ever needed to. If used long term I think of that being 6 months to a year and some people MAY need that time to learn how to live clean and without their DOC..What was your DOC? For anyone using suboxone, they should be tapered off the drug before stopping. No matter if it's used short term or long term. For those that require this medication for life than so be it and God bless them if they should want to quit and are not tapered properly. Have a nice night and I am glad the switch to sub has worked out for ya! It's great you have a doctor working with you..That is important. Btw~ Why has your doctor kept you on it for 7 years, fi you don't mind me asking?

Ps. I have never taken suboxone but I have been an addict since 1996 and have had gone through my share of withdrawls. I am currently clean and have been since Feb 2nd,2005. It is possible to quit taking narcotics without the help of suboxone, I am living proof. However, some people need sub to help them get over the roughest part and I think that's great too! I wish everyone on sub the best!
Leslie,
Everyone does not "have" to come off Sub. I have never heard anyone say otherwise. Sub maybe needed for extreme pain cases and for addicts who have relapsed multiple times and just cant remain sober.
* Most people get on Sub for the temporary aid it provides in getting people off narcotics. The longer people are on Sub , the harder it is to get off. It still can be done , but it takes more effort .
* I cant wait to be off SUB . I would never choose to be on it longer then absolutly neccessary.
1) It still is a narcotic
2) It cost money
3) I resent being dependent on something .
4) It can constipate me
5) My sex drive is lowered

Yes , it is much better that using illegal drugs and pumping all that tylonol into our bodies, but I would think getting off of it would be a goal that most people would want .

Have a nice night,

Jake
Les, I see that as between you and ur Dr. If taking this medicine helps you stay off drugs, and you and ur Dr are in agreement, and it helps you be "normal", it wouldn't be in the horizon of my considerations messing with something that works. If people have reasons for feeling they "need" to get off it to properly continue their recovery- that's fine.
There are exceptions, but sometimes well meaning people want others to apply what they think they sould or shouldn't do, I don't know if you know anyone like this, but i have found them a time or2 outside aa or na meetings, smoking a cigarette, dinking coffee, eating chocolate and discussing with a friend whether he/she finds zoloft or lexapro a better antidepressant. Theses people seem to believe that to work an na program successfully, you must not take any drug.
Dog, you make me smile....you are very observant...the same people are telling you to be rigorously honest, and then "fake it till you make it..." I am not slamming the program, but I can relate to your observations.
I, for one, think I will stay on the sub for a while. $120 a months beats ending up with a needle in my arm, and I have never even seen H. But, let me loose now, and I bet you I will be there...
That is my rigourous honesty.

Like it has been said already this debate has been done to death but I do repect that the groupo is changing all the time with newcomers. I agre with you in aspects of what you are saying. Some, for the sake of a little Methadone or Subutex can remain living stable, worthwhile lifes and I se no problem with that. Without it some would simply die. Both drugs are fairly beniegn and normally do not lead the user into bigger and bigger doses or drug seeking habits (especially Sub). There are people who may have to take a little Sub for the rest of their lives.....thats fine with me...in fact it has nothing to do with me.
I take Sub and have done for 6 months and have no plans to come off. My Dr advises against it and says I would probably not be able to work without it due to pain and addction problems. I sometimes do not like the fact that I am dependant on a tablet to perform a normal life but if this is a desease like diabetes is then like them I have to accept it and get on with life. I am just thankful I live in the UK and only pay 90 ( about $150) a year for it.

Browndog, I enjoyed your observation ;-)
Bless you all

Neon, thanx, I really wanted to try sub here, but in certain parts of the US it, well, very capitalitic. (I had to say that) Especially in the south. On this program i m on, its $200.00 a week. other people have posted that they get it cheeply, Like $100 or so (i dont know how mane Euros that is, But please don't tell me u guys in the UK are stuck with that currency too). Its costin me $84 a week for methadone, which used to seem like a lot to me. In NY, they did it by ur income, and i was paying $5.00 a week. This clinic accepts medicade (Sorta government medical coverage for people who are sort of, or really poor) which is the only insurance that covers it. So the people that are lucky, or unlucky enough to be on medicaid get it for $2.00 a weeik. I get a little resentful of the system sometimes. I do think we the people have an obligation and should have a right, to provide and receive medical tratment. But it dont work like that. i have pretty muched always worked and provided for my family. There have been rough times, some times as long as maybe six months in a row, where i was way below e, but still didnt qualify for medicaid, because in the past i made too much money. ( I'm not talkin high cotton dollars- I've never made real money, though i have come close to the early stages of that 'disease' a couple times. Fortunately, i'd screw up somewhere, so I've never gotten addicted to money. ) Well here in the land of the free.., they generously take about $20.00 or $25.00 out of each of my paychecks to pay for medicaid. And me having absolutely no insurance whatsoever, yet paying for other peoples, and them seeing them pay $2.00 aweek & me paying $84.00, for some odd reason that bothers me a bit. Maybe I should talk it over with my shrink, cause it must be a charchter defect, or maybe its a demon that i need to get cast out.

Seiously though, some people getting medicaid doesn't bother me in the least. They are on hard times, and its not lookin like its gonna change for them. And a lot of them are like single mothers with kids, etc, etc.
But I will tell you something that really did piss me off at the clinic a couple days ago. This young guy, big guy, maybe in his late 20's, early 30's , healthy lookin, etc, etc, goes walkin up to the window to get let in to receive his dose. The lady tell him, he needs his $2.00. He tells her he forgot it at home, can he...blah,blah.. She says, no. You won't receive your dose today unless u pay the $2.00.. So he goes outside , "borrows" it from someone, and is done.
I am rarely bothered by $hitlike this, but u are talking about bringing in $2.oo f'n dollars, once a week, and i can only guess that this is not the 1st, or 2nd , or 3rd time he hasnt brought it in. You have free insurance, probebly food stams, wellfare, rent asistance, & i am paying for that, and probably also paying a little more for my medicine to help pay for ur paperwork, you are at least 15 years younger then me, i work and take care of myself & my family, and u dont even have the f'n shame, or decency or whatever, to round up $2.00 that ur not gonna spend on beer, & bring it in here. That absolutely pisses me off.
Gotta get back to work, I just had to vent that frustration, thanx for listenin.
harry
IT IS ONLY COSTING ME 50 DOLLARS FOR 30 PILLS WHICH I DONT THINK IS THAT BAD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS WHEN I WAS ON GUARDIAN AND WAS PAYING ONLY 35.00 FOR THE MONTH
