I Need Advice On Detoxing From Vicodin

I really need advice on how to detox from vicodin at home. I'm a 36 year old mom who has been taking vicodin es daily for over three years. I don't take big quanities, and I generally don't take more than one at a time. I take anywhere from 4-8 a day. I have never gone longer than 2 days without. On day three, I feel awful and start all over again. I have never vommitted from not having them and really never had shakes. I just feel tired and lazy and just "not right." I no longer have any sort of euphoria from these;however, without a vicodin, I don't feel like me. Not only do I know how unhealthy this is for me, its financially destroying me. I've heard of a detox where you take xanax for three days and stay asleep. Does this work? Any advice will be appreciated, I'm getting scared.

Thanks
LAP
LAP- Obviously there is no easy way. I'm trying to quit too. Stay away from Xanax though. If you go to Detox, they will probably give you Valium 3-4 a day, as they did me for Xanax. It helped. Afterword, though, the Xanax thing was hell, so don't use that. I think I need to go in myself for detox off of Vic's. The shakes and the other stuff are too much. A little Benzo will help you though..but it won't make you sleep for three days. I wish you all the luck..I'll pray for you. Pray for me, too.
can u see a drug dr, maybe get some clonidine which i probably wouldnt mess with without a dr., one time i couldn't get help anywhere on wds from methadaone, i finally called the emergency room & the dr there said he could help ( i had no money or insurance) he called a drug dr, prescibed me clonidine & got me an appt. where they let me pay a little at a time. This was in, believe it or not, Alabama, where if u aint got no green u r out of luck. Anyway, they gave me cloindine & phenobarbital & it helped a lot. Like I said, I dont think I'd even mess with clonidine withuot a Dr, cause its safe & all, but it is a BP medicine that fools opiate receptors, but i think u need to be very careful with it.
HI,

Browndog is right. First of off you need Clodiene. It will bring the bloody pressure down and help with the withdrawals. there really awful but avoiding them isnt gonna get you off them. Xanax will help if you need it. Sleeping however well I dunno if you are gonna get any of that when you detox. The most important thing in all of this is that you have the courgage to give up otherwise you wouldnt be asking for help. There are a lot of people that can help you here. Better than any doctor could I assure you.

It takes about a week to get clean then after that you have to really focus on staying clean. Its so easy to get drugs and pop them but its really hard to stay clean. I would personally suggest taking the benzo ( valium) they are not as intense and they last longer than xanax.

Get a diary and right down all the good points about taking drugs and all the bad I bet you all the bad are a longer list.

I suppose at this time you are just taking them to feel normal
? Am I right well that its the time you need to give up. I promise you in a few months you will feel like a million dollars and no pills in your body.

Keep posting and keep smiling and keep away from the drugs I promise you you will never look back. I thought I just couldnt do it once but I have and I never look back just keep going.

Take care

Rhonda
Dear Lap, from what you've described, w/d doesn't sound like it would be too terrible for you. It varies alot considering how much a person has been taking, how long, etc. You may want to speak to a doctor about it. Personally, I did it without any meds to help me through it and while it wasn't fun, it wasn't horrible either. After three or four days you'll usually start to feel considerably better. Sleep is pretty difficult for awhile but there are some people on here who can advise you on non narcotic sleep aides. There are lots of little tricks we've all learned to make the experience more bearable. Imodium ad, motrim, warm baths, getting outside, trying to get in some kind of excersise. Meetings are a lifesavor. The support of friends is invaluable. I liked to listen to music, it helped me stay upbeat. I prayed alot. I tried to stay as busy as possible. It's also very nice to post and talk about how you're feeling. Hope this helps a little. Hang in there, YOU are SO worth it!!! Love and God bless, Kat
Lap,

Being on xanax is worse than being on opiates. Benzo's stay in your system for up to 21 days and are very difficult to get off of. You have to slowly taper down over many weeks or risk having seizures. There are non-addicting sleep aides such as Trazedone or Seraquil that will help with sleep. (these meds require a prescription but are non-narcotic).

If you have quit taking the opiates, each day will get better, I promise. Quitting drugs is the easy part, staying off them is the hard part. If you can enroll in an IOP recovery program and attend NA meetings as these will help. Taking it one min, one hour at a time is all that you can do early in recovery.

Good luck and God bless,

Hi LAP, you were almost there before, when you turned back at Dat 3! Day 3 is usually the worst of the physical w/d's, and it gets better each day after that for most people. Except for sleep problems and some sluggishness, the physical wwithdrawals off hydro are pretty much done by Day 5 or 6. Try again, you can do it...one method might be to cut your dosage in half for 4-5 days (i.e., don't take your daytime dosages, or something like that), then go cold turkey. It may be easier on your body. Drink lots of water, take motrin, vtaimis, Immodium A-D, some OTC med for sleep (benadryl, Sleepy Time tea, etc.), try to exercise/walk as much as possible (esp. before bed), take hot baths.....stay with it for at least 4 days and see how you feel then. Good luck to you... M.
