i've been on methadone for 4 1/2 years, with only 1 relapse w/ heroin after a year on the program. at first i was on 95 mg, then after a year i started decreasing my dose 1mg a week, sometimes staying on the same dose for a few weeks even a few months. i decided to take it really slow. last time it was a disaster, i am powerless. i am currently at 9 mg, going down to 8 mg on tue, i have mild w/drawals, sweating, anxiety, nightmares, nothing like doing it cold turkey, but i am very scared of relapsing. I haven't stuck a needle in my body in 3 1/2 years, I don't want to now. I have dreams of using, i go to A.A. so I have a sponser, but there's not many people I can really talk to about detoxing, successfully. I don't go to NA, i made a mistake of telling someone I was on methadone and it was like a witchhunt. I've been hearing a little about subutex, am I on too little of a dose to switch over? if anyone has anything to share or any encouragement I would appreciate it. Unfortuantly we don't hear too much about success stories of Methadone Maintainance patience getting off of Methadone. It's a less than 1% success rate for patients to stay off of methadone and abstain from opiates, and other drugs for more than a year.

you can definitely make the switch to Subutex and the detox will be ALOT easier. In my opinion this is the way to go. Do you have access to Sub?
