I Told My Son...

Hey guys.
Wanted to share this w/ you.I told my oldest son last night.Whheeewww!!!
I was lurkin on the computer last night, readin some posts and i came across a post from Lisa,(cowgirl). She has the nepolian dynimite(sp?) guy that dances.and my son thinks it's sooo funny. So i showed him.Well,he read the topics and saw pain pills, addiction ,the whole nine yards. He asked what was i doing on this site.
So i told him, remember when i hurt my hand and had to have all those surgeries?
Yes,he said.I was taking so much meds for so long, that i became dependent on them.Dependent?Whats that he said.So i told him that it was just another word for addiction.Oh.Ok he said. What about now?And i was so happy to be able to tell him that i no longer took them....Yayyyyy for me....
Thanks for lettin me share...
DJ

P.S.
Thanks Lisa for unknowingly opening that door...
Hey DJ,

Congratulations! That's a huge milestone. I'll bet your son is so proud of you for having the courage to be honest... I sure am!

Love,
Matt
Thank you so much Matt.
It was a feel good moment. No drugs needed.LOL
But i couldn't have done it w/o all the great support here.
And it was much easier than i thought it would be..
DJ
Thats great!!

I think if they know they can understand a bit why mom or dad is a little outta whack. My son knew so when I blew up a few times he would look at me and just say, " I hope you get thru this soon mom" He now sees me doing great, I even have a job interview today!!! Which he is so proud of, cuz he knows I am better. : )
Great news, Impy. Now you don't have to worry about him finding out accidently. No worries about how to explain your addiction. That must be a great relief!!
Notfalling,
My son still thinks i'm crazy, nothing doing w/ the pills..LOL
Good luck on your job interveiw. How long have you been clean?

12stepper,
It's funny. Here while back,he went to the med. cabinet and said"hey, all these med.bottles are mom's.Are ya sick?"I'm sure even back then he knew s'thing was up.Kids are smart w/o us knowin about it.
DJ
Hopefully all those pills are gone. I am sickened to find out that kids are selling their parents drugs at school. Sad thing is, smart intelligent kids are doing this.
Not only selling them, but now they are taking them themselves. We are in for a long haul of addicted kids, that parents have no clue about. Thank goodness there are no more drugs in this house..

Been clean for over a month now
Glad I could help DJ...even unknowingly...you're a good mom.

Love
Lisa
One month!! Good for you..
It's unbeleivable how many of us there are.And to think that many more will be following.Even kids.My son and i have talked many times about addiction. He's only 10 but figured i'd start early.LOLHe takes daily meds for ADHD but thats it.But for a long time,if he was the slightist bit sick or hurt, he'd want meds.Watching me too much i guess.Needless to say, we have stopped all that.
How long were you on pills and what?If you don't mind my asking.

DJ
Lisa,
Thank you again. When the door was opened, i figured i'd better go on thru it.
One down, one to go.Many yrs away.LOL

How are you doing today? And your family?

DJ
Good for you DJ and it sounds like you raised a very understanding son.

Love you,
Jean
Good for you, DJ!!!! You're a wonderful mother and it shows. And isn't it the greatest thing to be able to tell him once you're clean? You deserve to be proud of yourself for creating a masterpiece of a child.
Love, Kat
dj,

dont know how old your son is, but i was always honest with my kids about my addiction and was able to educate them and it is something they feel strongly against, i always said if i had to go through addiction to teach my kids not to go there then it was all worth it, better me then them. kudos to you. i have always been brutally honest with my kids about everything and they know there is nothing they cant share with me good bad and ugly that we can not work through. it only brings you closer together and i found i get so much respect from them because of it. your a fabulous mom : )

oh just saw your son is 10, thats how old mine will be in december, he understands on his level and still asks questions and we talk on his level. i always get hugs and i love you's no matter what

terrianne

Congratulations! That's such a huge step and I know what a hard thing it is to do. I hope you're immensely proud of yourself.
