"Oh what I would do to have the kind of faith it takes to climb out of this boat I'm in, on to the crashing waves. To step out of my comfort zone into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is, and He holding out His hand. But the waves are calling out my name and they laugh at me, reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed. The waves they keep on telling me time and time again, boy you'll never win, you'll never win!
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story. The voice of truth says do not be afraid. And the voice of truth says this is for My glory. Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.
Oh what I would do to have the kind of strength it takes to before a giant, with just a sling and a stone. Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors shaking in their armor wishing they'd have had the strength to stand. But the giant is calling out my name and he laughs at me reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed. The giant keeps on telling me time and time again, boy you'll never win, you'll never win!
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story. The voice of truth says do not be afraid. And the voice of truth says this is for My glory. Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.
But the stone was just the right size to put the giant on the ground. And the waves they don't seem so high from on top of them lookin' down. I will soar with the wings of eagles when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus singing over me.
The Voice of Truth tells me a different story. The voice of truth says do not be afraid. And the voice of truth says this is for My glory. Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth."
I HEARD my Father say...
I am for you...who can be against you
You are My child
I call you by name. I have placed My hand on you
I love you with an everlasting love
Rest in my love
Nothing that is good will be withheld from you
Do not be anxious about anything
Nothing can separate you from My love
With ME all things are possible
Thank You, Lineman
Did you write this? Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of my sobriety. I too hear both voices at times. I know where each of them comes from. I choose out of my own free will; to follow the truth. It was the truth that set me free.
Last night I read Isaiah 61: 1-3. I burst into tears of joy. For I'm a prisoner no more.
God Bless You!

These are the lyrics from "The Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns.
I substitute the words "waves" and "giant" with alcohol.
After God, but before all others my sobriety is the most important thing.

Lineman that is a beautiful post. All of us have ridden the waves haven't we. We have all heard the voice telling us we will fail. But a greater voice can be heard above the crashing of the waves if we just listen. If we listen and take the wounded hand that is so graciously been offered to us with love and compassion and healing. If we listen we will hear the voice of truth the voice that can set us free.
