Just wanted to let you all know that I wish you all the best and will keep you in my prayers. I don't think I'll be posting here anymore because I'm "on the other side" so to speak. Does anyone know of a group for the families of addicts because we have been hurt too....and it is so very hard to see the one you love hurting himself and not be able to help them? It is truly heartbreaking!
God bless!

Wow, I'm real sorry to hear about your son. I can only imagine what as a parent you are experiencing. I think you are doing the right thing in your attempts not to enable him. Eventually, he has to hit bottom and want to stop. Life has a funny way of throwing us into this when the time is right. Usually with circumstances we don't want to look at. I do hope he hits bottom soon and really wants to stop. There are alot of great programs. My old boyfriends son was an addict. He was in trouble with the law and others with money. He was so thin when I met him it made me cry to see him. This beautiful being being ravaged by the disease of addiction. I loved this boy and could see only the potential. I kept him in my prayers and my intention always was that one day he would be free of his disease. I visualized him everyday. One day, out of the blue he went to an impatient facility that lasted 3 months. He came out and wanted to stay clean. Now he is a counselor. I saw a picture of him and he put on some weight and he has a girlfriend. So don't ever give up because one day when he is ready he is really going to need you.

Thanks for the reply PM! You have given me hope!
My son, too, is skin and bones. He has always been on the lean side (never above a 32 inch waist), but now he's in bad shape. Only wants to eat sweet cereal. No protein...says nothing but cereal appeals to him. I made ham - one of his favorites - he didn't eat any. I'm going to try steak next.
If you are in contact with this young man you mentioned do you think he would be willing to email my son?

Please don't give up on the site. The support here is remarkable.
I too am going through a living hell with my son recovering from prescription pain meds. He's a christian boy with a heart of gold, but got caught up in the fear of feeling the initial pain returning. Thinks from just escalated. I withdrew from nursing school to stay home with him and concentrate on his health and detox. Luckily we have been lucky enough to stay home and visit the crisis center twice a week and the family doctor every other week. I am here for you if you ever need a friend. I couldn't of made it without the friends here at the board and the knowledge I've learned about all the drugs and side effects.
Prayers and Hugs,

Susan, I have an illness that led to my weight loss. I was a guy that had a 36 inch waist and went to 29! But as advice, I would say your son is still using. When I was in my depths of addiction, the only thing I ate was Popsicles. Meat did not interest me at all. Thank God Im eating normally again. The sweet stuff comes from a craving addicts have. And totally true if they are drinking. But it can be from anything. So just keep your eye on him, make that steak, and MAKE him eat it...and keep knowing that you love him so much.
Thanks, Labecca. My life too is a living hell. My son and I have always been very close and he was very Christian and loving. Now he is deceitful and cunning with no respect for us or for the law. He will do almost anything to feel good. I will pray for your son. Please pray for mine (Harry). Thanks so much!
God bless!

Thanks for the reply and information, Danny. It's not what I wanted to hear but definitely what I suspected. What made you decide to come clean? I hope and pray someone or something gets through to my son!
God bless!
