I'm New

HELLO EVERYONE I FOUND THIS SITE AND IM SO HAPPY I DID. IM 30 AND I WENT IN REHAB.. GOT OUT AND STILL CAN STOP WHAT CAN I DO THANK YOU..
you need to go to meetings and be around others who have experienced what you have. maybe get on some antabuse so that you will be unable to drink. find a sponsor and start working the 12 steps. read the big book cover to cover, like it is a bible, there is light at the end of the tunnel, it didn't take overnight to be an alcoholic and it won't take a day to get over it, it will be a daily struggle. best of luck, hugs and prayers to you.
Hi There,

It doesn't need to be a lifetime of meetings. I actually quit drinking by reading a book called, "Rational Recovery, The New Cure For Substance Abuse."

The book describes the state of addiction as being like there are two of you. One of you wants to go on and lead an addiction free life, fulfilling your profound life purpose, unencumbered by compulsions to self-harm. The other part of you wants to go on drinking/drugging/cutting full blast forever. The mental technique described in the book teaches you how to firmly recognize your own Higher Self as having the real control over your impulses, and it teaches you how to fully integrate yourself with THAT identity, rather than the one that sends the self-harming messages.

It's very zen, and very uplifting, and very EFFECTIVE.

Hey New, Janet says it best. Right down what she says and live by it. Also that book Rational Recovery is so good. It is another way to get and stay sober other than AA. I (23yrs) live with both principals. My best suggestion is to take it both ONE DAY AT A TIME and ONE HOUR AT A TIME. Be honest & believe.
Good luck.
