I'm a bit frustrated and to be honest a little angry, someone recommended I should take immodium AD for "my solids to stay solid", now I find out they contain opiates? Is this true? Am I no longer 12 days clean? I'd rather live with unpretictability in certain areas of my recovery, but will not do so if it contains the least amount of opiates in them. Please let me know what the deal is, thx. - Chris
No Imodium doesn't contain opiates. That doesn't even make sense. I have heard that there is an ingredient in it that sort of tricks your brain into thinking that.
I have no idea if this is true.
Opiates in Imodium?...its sold over the counter. Can you imagine? It would be flying off the shelves.
Calm down...it helps for upset tummy's and diarrhea. If you don't like it don't take it. I would think its a whole lot safer than the xanax that you are/were taking.

Actually Immodium (Loperamide) is an opiate.
However it is not like other opiates, it doesnt get you high.. just constipated :)
Your clean time is not in jeopardy.

Thanks SP...I knew I heard something along those lines.
No problem.
The drug in Immodium is Loperamide, an unscheduled opiate that does not easily cross the blood/brain barrier so it is useless as an analgesia.

Hi!
It does help with a lot of different physical withdrawal symtoms, not just the diarreah (sp). It attaches to the same receptor sites but doesn't give you a buzz (or something like that). How many days clean are you now?

Today I am 13 days clean. The strongest thing I take is prescription xanax and if i have a headache i'll take excedrin, that has been it. - Chris

Be careful with the xanax Chris. A few here found out the hard way that it was easy to switch DOC's and that benzo's were a gateway drug back to thier DOC. Is there something else you can take instead?
I echo that Chris..you should talk to Danny/Bullwinkle about xanax he took it for a long time as prescribed and he can tell you the horror that he had.
I would never take that drug!

It was a drug that I never liked but it doesnt' mean that if it were available and I found an excuse to take it, it couldn't become a problem. We don't need a pill to fix every little hurt. Getting back your life, going to meetings and practicing recovery is an awesome anti-anxiety med.
It is my opinion that you should not use benzos to treat withdrawals past 14 days.
Xanax has a short half life, so you develop problems quicker than with other benzos like diazepam.
At 14 days it is time to leave the xanax behind.
Good Luck.

I wouldnt even go 14 days
Me neither. Nip it in the butt now and truly be clean and sober.
