Hi guys,
Want your input....
Many of you know my daughter OD'd a couple of months ago. Thankfully they were able to bring her back.
Now the hospital bills are coming in. Right now we're looking at $1200. That is our portion after insurance.
Our concern is if she OD'ds again, GOD HELP US NOT!!! But is it smart to keep her on our insurance or have her try 'n get a medical card? She's not working & is physically in pain & ill (partial dope sick, I believe).
She's most likely still using. I hate having to ask about this, but we are not wealthy or even well off. lol We get by, but was wondering if that could help her get into a rehab (God willing she ever agrees to one!) , a drug program, meds, etc...?
All replies welcome~.
love & God bless,
Dee
You poor thing! I wish we all had the answers, but we can only give you what we've been through and still going through.. My son dr shop's he is 35 so there is nothing I can do. He has never had insurance. He has OD numerous times brought back twice as it was that bad. He also tried to commit suicide and no insurance. They treated him and he has dr bills and the hospital usually rite it off. I even got into a mental hospital I baker act him. He got help without insurance, he could of put himself in rehab with no insurance, there is help out there if they want it. When he did his arm he had 9 surgeries no insurance, he had home nurse to change his bandage daily no insurance and he had a skin graft again no insurance.
Wonder why we pay so much it's because of this type of medical bills. The social worker at hospital got him Medicaid and they put him in a rehab, of course once his arm was done he took off. But there is help!! And she can get it through programs and church if SHE REALLY wants it..

Sue,
My God, you sure have been tormented by your son's actions, especially his OD's. I'm sorry he was so close to death so many times. Man, I feel for you, I truly do. The suicide attempts have to be HELL on earth. Mine has only threatened when she lived here, but today she was just saying she wanted to die. I'd prefer neither, but it is what it is. It sucks. It's harder and harder to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I remember you're saying about his arm. Was that a result of shooting up? My daughter is terrified of needles. She said a 'friend' did it for her, that once, that she now says was more like 15 times...(probably more). My stomach turns to think of it.
It sounds like the system worked for your son. I'll tell her to apply for a card of some sort. She's only 20, but had two surgeries for scoliosis, so maybe that would qualify her...and no job. :( That & if she's no longer on our insurance. We can't cover however many OD's or whatever she may have in the future. Obviously we can't gamble on her. Can't trust her or anything she says, let alone does.
I kinda always figured that's why our insurance rates are so high & we have to pay so much out of pocket. I've got heart disease & other serious medical issues. We can barely afford to keep me well ! Thankfully, by prayers & despite the stress, I'm doing okay. Prayer is POWERFUL thing, for sure!~ IF only it would work for my daughter, and your son. SHE has to REALLY WANT it, like you said.
You've been through so many years of this s***. I can only imagine how that's been for you.
Thank you for your words of wisdom. I am grateful you replied to me.
Please take care of yourself~.
Love & God bless you,
Dee

Dee,
My son is a nightmare, walking nightmare. Do you remember the show where the teacher became a meth dealer, I couldn't even watch it, it was so close to home.
My son is missing, I haven't heard from him in three months first time since his first jail time that he hasn't contact me. I don't know if he is alive. Drug addicts find one another and they steal, lie and hustle and still manage to live another day.
The stories I could tell you, stealing my credit card and charge $1000 in less that three weeks at Walgreens! He walked into a store try on a pair of shoes then walk out with them one and put others in box.. He learned how to Overdraw his bank account, when he has a job he gets those pay loans. So many things he has done.. But the worse in my eyes is when he rob his nephew piggy bank..and totally denied it..
I've paid rent, phone bills, car insurance. I also move him out of state. I live in Florida and I won't tell you how bad it is here. I sent my son to my dying brother in Chicago where he knew no one but my brother. Didn't last three months and brother toss him on his ear for using and stealing his drugs..
Don't beat yourself up and please don't make yourself sick. IF something happens to you, your daughter will have a serious pity party and blame you for her start using again...
My son started using at 13 just pot and by 16 a drug addict that I couldn't reach. Dr's/jail/threaten boot camp you name it, I tried it, however I did have one obstacle his father, he didn't have the backbone I needed to enforce my rules. He kept saying he will outgrow it. Guess what he outgrew pot!
SO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!! xxx

Dee,
About insurance. Our son was covered under ours until 26. the first rehab was reimbursed by insurance and did not ask for us to cover any part of it. The second rehab a year later was not covered. he was not on our insurance. we paid out of pocket. it was expensive, but on the reasonable end.But expensive enough that we can not do that again. Our son does not have insurance and I do worry that he will need regular medical care and not be able to go to a doctor.
1. a friend of mine said hospitals wont turn people away. he wont have to pay.
2. i looked into the 'obama care' but it was past the deadline to sign up for it.
but it could be as cheap as $20 - $40 per month. but the kid has to sign up for it. I can not do it for him. But it is too confusing for him. :(
3. at one point in 2015 he did go to state office and get food stamps. I think he got them for 6 months or a year. he probably had to follow through on something and I doubt if he did.
I have had the same questions you have about insurance. I think they can apply for medicare but my son does not do it or follow through.
I guess for the reasons you state, your daughter should be off your insurance. but will medicare accept her if it is possible for her to be on your husbands insurance?
It makes me angry that we have to waste so much time trying to understand these details, while the kid does not care.
