My DOC is Lortab 7.5 - I've been using since 1999 with 2 self-induced 30+ day breaks which were achieved via cold turkey (CT) w/o any form of medical treatment. The last time I attempted this was over 2 yrs. ago and particularly tough. I know without doubt the next attempt, which I hope to start ASAP, will be much harder. My main concern is this - is it possible for one to go CT w/out seeking aide from a Dr./Treatment Program and does anyone have advice and/or know of any OTC vitamins, herbs, etc. to ease the physical illnesses associated with CT detox?
I commend the efforts of those responsible for maintaining this site - you have no idea how blessed I am just to have found you! I know a rough road lies ahead but am determined to break free from the grip of pain meds. While a bad back began my habit, I've been now using the pills in an attempt to ease the mental pain that resulted from the week apart deaths of my dad and sister... While I've tried numerous anti-depression drugs without relief, I know there has to be a better way to cope aside from an addiction that rules every minute of each day and I'm tired of being a slave! My lack of medical insurance limits the treatment options - not to mention a long term inpatient stay, which is also prohibited by living a responsibilty ridden life!!
Any replies will be greatly appreciated & thanks again for being here!
Wanna, sorry to hear about your losses, thats rough for anyone. Generally detoxing isnt life threatening unless you have a medical condition. How many lortabs were you taking a day?

While I can "get by" on as few as three per day, I have been taking as many as 6-12 to get reach a point of an anti-depressant "high." Furthermore, I am convinced there is another component (aside from the narcotic) in Watson 7.5 Hydro-Co due to taking much stronger PP's that fail in "getting me where I want to be." I am considering approaching my MD and/or pharmacist but am concerned with their being bound by an "ethics code" that I fear may result in a forced stay at a LTF. Do you feel it is safe to discuss this problem w/my family Dr.? *** THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY ***
If you can get by on three a day, try cutting down to two a day for a few days then 1 1/2, then 1 then quit, the withdrawals from that amount should be minimal. You can get some otc meds like comtrex flu, motrin for aches and pains, tylenol pm to help you sleep, take hot baths. Take vit b12 and a multi vitamin.
I dont want to minimize your withdrawal pain but a lot here have come off much higher doses and have made it through, you can to.
Try it on your own and see how it goes. There will be more replies in the morning, wait and see what others have to say.
have a good night

Wannabfree,
First of all I would like to say how sorry I am for your loss. I couldn't imagine. Two losses in a row like that must have been very hard on you.So my condolences.. As far as your addiction,I totally agree with Johndee on this one. Try and cut down to 2 a day for a few days then 1 1/2 for a few days or week, then 1 and if you want to end there cool if not go to a 1/2 a day and then stop. I have done it many times and as resently as Feb 2nd. I got through the withdrawls with OTC meds, such as Johndee mentioned.
Comtrex Cold and Flu
Motrin- 800 mgs
Immodium--
Benadryl- Is great for sleep
and viatmins.
Good luck and if you get to moody try some Midol.
Have a great weekend. and welcome to the board!!

I completely understand and empathize with your losses. I have lost a best friend, my daughter's husband and my husband's dad and know the feeling of using as a way of dealing. keep coming in here, its a great group with lots of advice and sympathy.
