Izzy

Honey, I know all I need to know about you if you are alcoholic like me. I know that once you take the first drink you can't stop. You can't predict where you will go or what you will do. I know that you will start out with good intentions but never quite know where that drink will take you. I also know that boredom and self pity will give you a good excuse to go have a drink. I know that because that's what always gave me a reason to drink. I didn't mean my post to put you down. I meant it as a warning. I know how hard it is in early sobriety. I've been there. Don't let boredom get the best of you. You are young enough to find plenty to do. You know that saying "don't get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? I I think they should add Bored to it too. Boredom was always a trigger for me until I got active in my recovery. Be careful. Go to a meeting, call your sponsor, help another alcoholic. There's always something to do if you look hard enough.
Lovin ya
Hi. I did feel a little offended at your post in my locked thread. I probably acted a little on the spur of the moment without stepping back (my BPD). I don't enjoy the way i am when I drink.... that's why I'm posting here... to get a little input and information... to find I am not alone. I like most people I have periods of self pity but we can rise above it if we so choose.... I didn't like the way you 'percieved' me as enjoying being a drunk. I have a lot of history... most of it I wouldn't wish on anyone but I've dealt with it as only I know how and that involved a lot of alcohol for 4 years or so. I am now looking forward to not being a guilt ridden person just for picking up a drink and getting wasted. I'm looking forward to sobriety even if I slip up I'm not going to beat myself up about it. I am young... I have my whole life ahead of me and I intend to enjoy it!

Glad we cleared that up. Do you go to meetings? Are you in therapy or anything? It's hard to do it alone. I tried it and was miserable.
Hi 12Stepper. I don't go to meetings as I don't think I'm really ready for that. I find it very difficult to be around people and I am not good at talking in groups. I received a questionnaire from the hospital today which i filled out and posted ASAP. (I had to fill out the questionnare to get an appointment at the alcohol abuse department at the hospital) I'm going to try and get antabuse tablets as I think that's the best course of action for me as a deterrant not to drink. Now i wait for an appointment for assessment and i take it from there.

That's great you're going to get outside help. Be careful with those antabuse though. They can be dangerous. My boss used them years ago and has nothing good to say about them. If you drink on them you will get really really sick.
Hey Izzy, glad you're back! If you want to go the antabuse route, that's great. It has worked for many people, and it's supposed to make you really, really sick if you drink on it. That's the whole point!!!!!!!!!!!!What you really need to be careful of is the people that think they know EVERYTHING;)
Hi Izzy,
I had to do a medication way as well to get off the drink,
I think you are in the UK? Im in Aussie, but they should have the same pills there,
You could ask about Naltrexone, and Campral,
I swear by them,, they got me sober along with this board and a Psycoligist!
But it was all worth it,
Take care Izzy, do what you have to get rid of the bottle,
Ginge
Hey Izzy, I know a bit about Antabuse, and it can definitely be a big help, just remember that if you do drink on it it will not only make you feel awful, it is really, really bad for your body. Some people find it controversial because of that. I knew a guy who drank on it plus took Oxycontin, he had to go to the ER. Also make sure it is OK to combine with your other medication, I guess your Dr would take care of that, at least I hope so. Keep posting and letting us know how the war goes...
Hi Ginge. I just looked up a bit about Campral... thanks that was a very useful suggestion and I will look into that when I get my appointment at the Hospital. The other drug I don't think would be suitable as that's for opiates? I'm not on any drugs... just prescription ones.

Thanks again though!

I would like to add, a friend of mine is on antibuse, and her facial products contained alcohol, she couldn't figure out why her face was red, swollen, rash. etc.

She took these concerns to her doctor who put her on it, thinking it was some type of reaction to the antibuse itself, it was not.

She didn't know her facial products contained alcohol, hence it interacted with the antibuse.

She has had to replace all products that contain it, not because it is a trigger, but because of the interaction with antibuse.

Not saying all people will react this way, something to think about if it does happen.

Hey 12 Stepper,, I will call you in a few. Love ya!!!
Also, my ex-husband put red wine vingar on his salad and got sick, make sure to read the label, alot of things have alcohol in them and we don't even know it...oh and Listerine made him sick too.
Hi Izzy,
Yep your right the other one is Naltrexone, well known for its use in Heroin addiction,
But also very successful in alcohol addiction, it affects everyone differently,
I felt itchy as, drove me nuts for weeks, and made me feel sick, I would force the pills down and think man I think a hangover would be easier than feeling like this!
Ask your doc Izzy, worth a go,
Good luck Ginge
Hi Ginge. I was wondering as you said you were on Naltrexone were you using Heroin??? Or do you just have a problem with alcohol??

I'm not sure I'd be prescribed Naltrexone... It's seems a bit heavy?

Izzy X
Izzy a couple of people in my AA group are on Naltrexone, they say it stops the craving. They take it for alcohol abuse, not other drugs. I don't have any personal experience of it though.
