Jack, where's Flatbush?
Have you ever seen that flick? Starring the young Phillite Sly Stallone, a young Henry Winkler and well a young someone else.
Those girls in that film crack me up.
'Stanley you better get her that ring Stanley"
I propose we all watch that movie instead of something somber like The Deer Hunter which brings tears to my eyes as I type this.
I know, I know there's no comparisson, but this is why people say to me "Lulabelle it's a great mystery how your mind works".
Line taken from another of my fave flicks "Wild At Heart" starring a young Laura Dern, and a young what's his name? Nic Cage. What's his real name though?
K, I amused myself for now.
Where's Flatbush?
Hey Bryn-DA
Really, after Manhattan, I was a Bronx guy. Never did too much running in Brooklyn. We used to go to a huge place in Brooklyn, that bought sheets of Aluminium, and different metals. (brass, copper, nickel-plated stuff, stainless steel...you get the idea*- but I dont remember if that was in the Flatbush section.
Thats where Spike Lee is from. --AND -You should know that Barbara Streisand and Susan Heyward lived there also.
Flatbush in the 1970s and early 1980s experienced a shift in demographics as it went from being a mostly White, Irish, Italian and Jewish community to a mostly Black & West Indian community. The cops ,mainly the 70th precinct
got famous for all the wrong rea$on$ back then.
I was just about 2 yrs old(1958) when the Dodgers moved from Ebbets field that was in Flatbush > to LA.California. . Really ,Ebbets Field and the old Brooklyn Dodgers( The Boys Of Summer)- made Flatbush a famous place a time long ago.
As far a the drug copping days, it was rare when we wound up in any part of Brooklyn- it just seemed like more police and more danger over there>maybe because we didnt know what was going on.
I do remember 1 time > I took a ride with this guy "Lenny Jiggs" who was from somewhere in Brooklyn- and he went out and copped this stuff called "Baby Face"- -(very strong). I was freakin out just waiting for him to get back to the car.
It,s funny what we remember Huh??- I remember that, but I cant remember the re-cycling schedule for my plastics, papers.and glass- - Jeez * * * *
So that is just about all I know about Flatbush.
Brooklyn, or as Spike Lee called it> Crook-lyn , was unfamiliar turf (for the most part) during those wild days.
Anyway that movie Lords of Flatbush is pretty good, I looked it up and saw that some of it was filmed in Stanford CT- - * Hmmm , thats Hollywood
SeeYaLater- and dont be flirting with all "Dem "snowmen in Phillytown
love&snowflakes

If I didn't know "Bab's" was from there my own mother would have me by the crook of my elbow. Guess what? I didn't.
I can sing every line to "Sadie, Sadie Married Lady" or "Don't Rain On My Parade". Nothing beats blowing out the neighbors with that on a Sunday morning.
"Do The Right Thing". You think I knew about Crook-lyn? I didn't.
I better read more.
Yupper, we remember things like fearing for our lives, but not how much mom's coumadin levels are or when my brother's kid is getting hitched.
I'm kevetching over this memory loss. "Sometimers" I call it.
Thank you, Jack. I'm so backward I had to ask such a thing. You're right. Hollywood. They filmed some in Connecticut? Did Henry Winkler play an Italian in that like he did "The Fonze".
Just to note: We have a picture of my brother in his little altar boy vestements giving the ol' Fonze "thumbs up".
Maybe "Welcome Back Kotter" is from Flatbush. Heeeeeeeey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
