Jack..

Alright mate..
..You about ?..just noticed ya posted arf hour ago..if not..np's..catch up sum other time..hope all is well with ya..Robbie..
Must of just missed ya.

Its almost 5 am over here now. Which would make it -what time over there??? next week??
I still dont know the time differences between us.

Hey Robbie- give me a standard UK Christmas feast.

Over here its> A turkey or baked ham(Us italians always have a big pasta dish on the side)- There may or may not be a tray of baked fillet of flounder - - mashed or roasted potatoes, salad., veggies,-a couple loaves of fresh french or Italian bread from the best bakery around.
This is usually preceeded with appitizers of shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, different cheeses and thinly sliced meats(usually italian specialities)rolled up with a toothpick in the middle-
assorted fresh dipping veggies like celery, carrots, cauliflower, -you know veggies you can dip into a onion type dip.
The desserts could be anything from a standard Apple pie & ice cream to exotic creations that some family member makes at every holiday

This all ends with freshly brewed coffee and assorted cookies and cakes.
It really ends when the fruit and nuts hit the table and everyone is picking at the grapes trying not to show that they drank or ate to much.

Then I think of the people who truely have nothing on this day -or any other day
I think a lot of people in this country take so much of what they have for granted.- - Up until 2 years ago ,I used to volenteer at the "soup kitchen" its a homeless shelter downtown on the lower east side of Manhattan. I just kind of stopped doing that- - I really should get back into it- its good for the soul ,keeps ya humble and grounded and puts a little spirituality into the day

Hey - its only once a year- - and hopefully the real reason for this holiday doesnt get lost in all the commericalism-

allthebest,
jack
robbie
what time is it there?- its 130 am here
Well I ain't Robbie, but it's 3:39AM here. LOL My mom's chopping celery.
I get up in the middle of the night for some peace and don't she get up?

The dip cracked me up with the feast, Jack. I used to make the Lipton Onion one. A real domesticated goddess was I.

We get German baked stuff. These things called Schpingles or something like that. I spelled it wrong. We got an old German bakery in my hood, and the guys use the original molds the grandpop bought with him from Germany. Then we get that Stollen stuff. I'm ashamed I don't have my heritage down pat.

A huge thing here too you must have is this pound cake. People wait in line around the corner for it. It comes in what they call a brick. Best stuff in the world. I wish I was Italian though. They have the "FISHES". Seven of them I think and it used to be twelve. They do that Christmas Eve. Smelts, and baccala, and all that.

Sorry I took over your thread.

I bet Robbie says they have PLUMB PUDDING. I want that. LOL What the heck is Plumb Pudding?
Hey B

You and I come from 2 of the most ethnic Cities in this Country. We both have neighborhoods that cover everyones culinary favorites.

My mom used to get up at 3:30 and start with the the gravy and meatballs .(Always Gravey- NEVER sauce) Now that she is without my dad,and she IS gettin a little old-- she sleeps until 6 or 7. Yeah she never was one to sleep late.
She used to yell at me when I was younger-"Its 7 am!! what are you gonna do- Rot in bed"- - funny lady

I know its still tough for her to go thru the Holidays without my dad- hell they we,re married over 40 years.
But- now she has her number 1 son living upstairs from her. Me ,the g/f , a 20 year old granson(my kid) and a cat she hates.

I bet she is re-thinking that offer- but she needs the rent and cash I pay her every month,so we are a little easier to take.
Listen- If I dont catch up with ya later- - Have a GREAT Christmas!!!!!
much love
jack
