Jack

We don't know each other from Adam, but when I read about your experiences in the Big Apple I start to fantasize about what life there is really like. Any pics of old haunts, stories of what happenned where, etc. Just curious. I'm from the laid back west coast of Canada and can only imagine about what it must have been like to grow up there. "Goodfellas" comes to mind. I always loved that movie. Mike.
Mike that'd be cool for Jack to share. All I know is Broadway, and the cafeteria at the big art museum. LOL

Jack, any stories of growing up and stuff?
Ist I can give you 2 quick drug stories ,in keeping with the sites theme

Im in EastHarlem , I cop 2 bags and start to walk away from the set, to the car> a undercover comes out of nowhere and throws me up against a fence- He reaches into my t-shirt pocket>'ok ,where did you get these"- me-"Across the street" cop- Which guy??"- me- Hell I dont know ,it was a mad scene,I was bombarded- cop- OK ,tell you what (he takes the 2 bags ,rips them open ,dumps the powder all over 2nd ave, and tells me "Today is your lucky day, get the f*** outta here- me- "thanks, seeya"- - lucky I had another 20 bucks >went downtown and copped

Not so lucky>
Lights go on on the way back to Jersey(to my Moms) -right as we got across the George Washington Bridge- - cOP-"DL/REG/INS CARD"- me> what did I do officer?? cop> You were doing 70(which was bulls***, that car would've fell apart if I tried to go over 55)- me> I dont think so ,maybe your radar is off" Cop> "What were you doing in East Harlem at 5:30 in the morning if you live in Jersey??" --How he knew I was in Spanish Harlem I still dont know- maybe another cop called the Bridge?- me- I dropped a friend off, he had be at work by 6 & he stayed in Jersey last night"
A warrant comes back for a shoplifting charge that I never went to court for- big trouble
Im searched- passenger searched- car searched- Dirty, Dirty and Dirty- -Cuffed and transported to Port Authority holding cell -bottom line> 30 days & 500 bucks in Bergen County NJ (Where the warrant was from)- -and then 30 in Rikers for the dope charge- remember this was light yrs ago* * *
Ive shared some of this before but there are a lot of newer people around so>>Ill share a few more**
I grew up kind of privileged in the Chelsea area of Manhattan- we moved to Jersey when I was a teenager.- For some fuked up reason I was drawn to the dark side.
I remember when the city had plenty of dark sides - from the South Bronx TO the lower east side. I come from a big Italian family so yeah. we had a few (including my Dads ,Dad who were - well lets just say , they chose to make their living in a different way then most*) Now he died when my father was 14 ,so I never met him , but they let him out of sing sing because he was dying of cancer(bookmaking and gambling- -wooohoo) So my Dad really grew up without a dad.- Of course Gramma never re-married and wore black for the rest of her life.- Never worked or collected a dime from the Goverment so it was odd/
funny that she was able to send her 2 boys to Seton Hall with no money -except what was dropped of by courier every month for some strange reason.

2brothers both very successful and a sister who is a teacher for the blind and special ed kids.- - What happened to me ,you ask??? Doctors have been working on it for years.
Like you might have read- NYC has changed , gotten a little softer, then the old days >really unbelievable- you can credit Guiliani with most of that -or blame him , but that is when things started to change .
I have to go now- but there are a million stories in the Naked City- Ill try to remember a few good ones a post them on this thread for the entertainment value only- This is kind of kool for me to reminice too * * * later Im late

Sorrygotta run

Jack is just the coolest! Always love to hear your stories! I've never made it to NY...from the wild, wild west myself. But it has always been one of my dreams.

Bryn!! My dear, it's so good to see you back again. I hope you're well. You sound like you are! How is your mom doing?

Love to you both!
Beck
Thanks for sharing Jack, you hear about terrible s*** that goes on there, but after reading some of your posts over the last year, it gives me hope that there are some decent people, like yourself, that can exist there. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Mike.
