Just Stopped

Hello all! I just stopped today using Oxy's. I have been snorting 3-40mg's a day. I am quiting cold turkey. Are there anything i can do do help the symptons? I have a wife, 6 year old and a 3 month old. I have to quit this stuff before it kills me. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi What I know about oxys you could read on a pin head. But dont frett someone will hope in to give you great info.Have you ever tried to stop before?
How long have you been doing this?
Im asking because the more info you give the better the answer.

Welcome to the board. You have taken a good step by admitting you have a problem.Sometimes thats the hardest step to take.As I said stick around...mj
I quit one time before for 2 months. It is all over my work so the peer pressure got me. I have been on them the past 3 months. I am quitting this time for good. Of course i said it last time also. But this junk is to expensive and the withdrawls stink. I was just hoping there is something that could ease the symptons.
Bump fornewbie

Below I have listed a few tips that I've found to help the w/d symptoms.
(Several different sources...)
I hope this might help you or anyone else in need.

<<<I VERY cautiously say : >>> If you have never tried Suboxone/Subutex/Bupe, you might want to research it if you can't make it going cold turkey or tapering. BUT only if you really can't do it on your own!!!! I only suggest it to be used by people that have tried to quit multiple times and always relapse - usually quickly, those that generally have a high usage habit, etc
Bupe/Sub is an opiate and is very addictive and you WILL have w/d's when you stop taking it!! The longer you are on Bupe and the higher the dosage, the worse the w/d's will be from it. At the same time, it has saved many peoples lives and is a million times better than methadone!!!!

Good luck to you!!!

THOMAS RECIPE

For the Recipe, You'll need:

1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, or Ativan). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others and is only a last resort!

2. Imodium AD (over the counter, any drug or grocery store) ** THIS ONE IS VERY IMPORTANT B-CAUSE IT IS RELATED TO OPIODS IN PROPERTIES WITHOUT CROSSING BRAIN BORDER CAUSING EUPHORIA LIKE OPI'ES, BUT DOES HELP A LOT WITH GENERAL W/D SYMPTOMS IN ADDIDITION TO THE GI PROBLEMS THAT GO WITH W/D!! **

3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.

4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).

5. Vitamin B6 and B12 caps.

6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).

How to use the recipe:

Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.

Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it.

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 & B12 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.

Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.

This method just saved my life and my family.. Today is day 17 with 1 small bump in the road..I feel great!!
Every day is a little easier (day 7 here). Hang in there. I tried C/T, and couldn't make it. I just cut my dose in half every each week (with the cuts falling on the weekends.) After a month I bit the bullet and just stopped. It all started with a possible career change (which I decided was not right for me) anticipating a drug test. I figured I might as well make the choice to finish what I started regardless of no drug test. The next day our supply got cut (bust). Thank good I quit on my terms and had enough to finish the taper. I wouldn't hesitate to find a group if I felt the need. I have a number for an emergency. I know everyone has a strong affinity for what works for them, but being able to relagate the step-downs to the weekends made all the difference for me being able to work.
fisherman,

You just made a lightbulb go off in my head!!
I am looking to switch jobs - did not even thing about having to take a drug test!!!
(I have only had to do one in the last 10 - 15 years!!!!)
Even though I could show prescriptions for many of the meds that were in my system, I don't know if they can tell the AMOUNTS of each which could be a problem. Not only that, I would prefer not to even have to explain what they might find before it's found! Glad I finally made the step to get off of the pills!!!
And if I do take a drug test in the next few weeks or month (s), I can at least rest easy knowing I will pass!!
Add that to my growing list of reasons to stay clean!!!

night, night...

:-)

Yeah.... great advice, lets go from a pain pill addiction to a benzo addiction. Nooooo such thing as switching addiction so no worries, right? WRONG.

Very bad idea, trust me. Addicts cant take anything that makes you high and not take a liking to it, otherwise we wouldnt be addicts. We would be recreational drug users.
Sorry to tell you Mrs, but I have lots of benzos in my house right now. Have had them within reach of me for years. Guess what though, I rarely take them. Occasionally to sleep - like 2x per month has been the most ever!!!
What you do not understand (and it is because you are not a pain pill addict - no attack on you at all so please don't take it that way) is that 99% of pain pill addicts don't like benzos AT ALL!! They don't get us high like the pain pills do!!
The only thing they do to me is make me very sleepy and lazy. You could hand me 5,000 bottles and I guarantee that I'd never become addicted to them and would very, very, very rarely even take ONE!!
Now, set some pain pills near me and watch out - downward spiral I will go................................................
I do not get the benzo addiction because I'm not a benzo addict.
Same thing with you, just flip the coin over.
But I will agree there are always exceptions.....

Common sense everyone PLEASE!!!
If you are a pain pill addict and actually LIKE the way you feel using benzos, then PLEASE do NOT use them!!!

Happy day to all....

Good girl! Thats what Im talking about!

I have millions of bars to but they will be too old by the time I get around to them. On an as needed basis a bar will probably last me over a month. There are four doses in each bar.

So I assume you are very aware of Benzo addiction and the hell it is coming off of them. That is what I was concerned about. If you dont, or if you have any question, let me know.

I understand pain pill addicts dont like xanax, they are out for an upper high. Not going to get that from xanax, to the contray.

EDIT:

Your last comment shows you know the dangers and dont want to go there... god bless you, i wish someone would have told me.
I am MORE than aware of the benzo dangers!!
Not even possible to quit ct without endangering your life!!
No thank you!!!
And the "high" is not a high to me at all - don't like it in any way!!!

Also saw a few benzo addicts when I was at inpatient detox and it was not pretty, to put it mildly!!

Swizzle;

Sometimes it's ironic what finally motivates us to stop. I knew my body was deteriorating. I had gotten to the point were I would stop breathing in my sleep occasionally (and wake up in a panic.) We were spending gobs of money and barely scraping by each month (I remember asking my father-in-law for a loan one month after rent check bounced - that was only one low point.)

What got me to stop. A stupid (genious?) drug test that never matierialized. Amazing, but once the sobriety process started I felt the need to prove to myself I was stronger. Pathetic/Of immeasurable strength? Weak/Strong? I'm still deciding how to look back at this expirience to grow and learn. I'm proud and embarassed at the same time (for different reasons.) I guess I'll hold a quiet satisfaction that I found the strength to beat myself for myself.
Getting off is DANGEROUS. I tapered too fast for it to be entirely safe. But I wanted to NOT be an addict once I realized I was.

I tapered from 4 mils to notta in 7 weeks. I was looking at a 8 month taper. No thanks.

I tapered as my body allowed me to. I didnt feel great everyday but it wasnt unbareable, despite the time frame I gave myself.

Again, I DO NOT RECOMMEND MY TAPER TO ANYONE. It was my addiction, my taper, my way. Others have to plan their work and work their plan their own way.
