I know one of the two "Kats" on the board detoxed from benzos and had a rough time..can you email me off the board? I have a question. Thanks
Danny, I think it was 12 stepper. Shantel
I cold turkeyed off of xanax and it was a nightmare. When I came here I had just stopped a very nasty oxycontin habit. I thought I'd been looking after my health by taking 3-4 mg's of xanax as I couldn't keep myself in the oxy. Many other drugs as well. Anyway, I didn't know what I faced until I came here. I didn't know it would be hard to stop. I was buying it from the internet and decided to just stop as I had run out again. The oxycontin really kicked my a** and the w/d lasted a long time. The xanax...man, I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I could function somewhat, but felt so very bad for about 4 months. The entire time. The worst was the muscles in my middle back just seized up, and stayed that way for the entire time. Some of the worst pain I've ever had. I had missed so much work from the oxy; I couldn't miss more. It is truly one of the darkest times of my life. I couldn't breathe for months.
Those of you who are using it, please just be aware of the addictive properties fo benzo's, especially xanax. You all have your reasons and it's certainly not up to me or my business. But those of us who have been there fear for you. I know I will never touch a benzo again. I'd rather drink gas.
Danny, I know you're trying to help and I thank you. Man, I hated hearing this when I first came here as I knew I'd have to stop. It is as bad as everyone says it is. It is a horror.
God Bless, Beck

Wow..Beck,
Thank you very much for that information. That is definitely a warning to heed! I am sorry that you went through all of that. I am so lucky that I never got addicted to Ativan. It was rx'd to me for detox off perc and oxy's how smart is that. I have never suffered from anxiety. Some Doctors I swear are so ill informed. I only took it for very short periods of time it really made me sleep. What I do remember in those short periods was how hard it was to fall asleep.
Very useful information.
Thanks!

27 years!! Well thats as long as I have been alive!!! LOL..j/k
Seriously Jeff, you are one tough cookie. Why? Was it an anxiety disorder? Did you abuse them? or just physically addicted.
I am asking because there has been so much talk about benzo's here lately!
Hope you are having a good night!
Lean Mean Selling Machine!!
I am up to my eyeballs literally in work....deadline this Friday!

Jeff..we got snowed out today...
You know, Cinci played in Milwaukee's domed stadium last night (they also were snowed out and the Brewers were playing away somewhere) and drew 19,000 fans. Who the hell in Millwaukee wants to see the Reds?
If I remember right, you took Valium, right? Valium is used to help detox off of Xanax (all that Half life stuff). They are not in the same league but pretty bad themselves.

Hmmmm...benzo withdrawal. Not pretty at all. I don't remember what dose I had myself on but I was taking xanax and fioricet when I quit drugging along with some alcohol here and there. I remember I took my last mg and went to a meeting. I don't think the w/d's got really bad until the third day but the main thing I remember is my neck. I was so tense. I couldn't relax no matter what I did. Of course I shook like a leaf, had diarhea, nausea, and terrible insomnia. I didn't have a full nights sleep until I was 7 months clean. The insomnia drove me nuts the first couple of weeks but I learned to make the most of it. I read a lot and my son gave me an old computer so I taught myself how to work it and spent a lot of time reading on the Pills Anonymous site. I was pretty weak but was able to function even if I was spacey as hell. Did I mention I made it to a meeting every day? It's hard to remember how bad it really was because I was in such a fog the first 3 months. I do remember it was hell though. I tried getting off xans a year or two earlier and was on wellbutrin and started having seizures but I didn't have any trouble with that when I quit them for good. I would never, ever recommend doing it the way I did without a doctor's supervision. The reason I did was because I had been thru benzo w/d many times before and knew what to expect. I wanted off them so badly I didn't care if I had a seizure or not.I figured if I got too sick I would go to the ER but that didn't happen. I never want to go thru benzo withdrawal again. It was hell.
I strongly suggest if you want to get off benzos to discuss it with your doctor first. With opiate w/d you feel like you are going to die but with benzo and alcohol w/d you CAN. For me, benzo withdrawal started about 2 hours after I took one. They are terribly addictive. I thought I could control my intake but the longer you take them the higher your tolerance gets. This is for all benzos. Eventually you will have to up the dose to get the desired effect. I took them all but xans really kicked my a**. They just feel a little too good to me.
Oh yeah, I went to a detox for valium in the early 80s but didn't learn squat from that I guess, because I convinced myself it would be different with xanax 10 years later. It was different all right. It was worse, the addiction and the withdrawal.
Not sure what you wanted to know, Danny, but this is what I got.
