Last Night

Last night my husband took us out for dinner to a new Italian rest. Normally we stay home and don't make a big deal over Valentines Day another expense. Lately though he's been acting like a school boy with me. Well I've been acting like a school girl in love to.Yes, sobriety is doing pleasant and romantic things in our marriage.

This is such a gift from God because our marriage was in trouble. Our children our so happy. I consider forgiveness a gift from God and it's been given to us both. Anyways, as Zac said there went my thought process, back on track.

The waitress brings over two glass chutes of something. It was loud and she said it was sparkling something. My red flag went up. I asked my hubby to smell and taste it. Sure enough it was wine. I told him I don't mind if you drink it and you can have mine to if you wish. Well he didn't.

We sat both glasses at the end of the table. The waitress comes over and looks at me and says you don't want this it's such and such, very good. I know the push trying to sell an expensive bottle. Remember I used to be in the business.

What urks me is that servers just assume that everyone drinks. She also brought two mini crab puffs. Why don't they ask you if you would like a sample instead of assuming you drink or that you don't have an alergy to shell fish. I guess I'm picky because thats how I was trained and for a moment I thought it was sparkling cider. My husband thought that's what she said. I'm glad my red flag went up; that I didn't just start to drink it.

I felt a little akward, different. It seemed everyone there was drinking. Then the man next to us spilled and broke his glass of wine. Funny then I felt normal. Not different anymore. Many of the deserts were alcohol based to. Are we supposed to not eat them, or entree's that are made with alcohol. How do we know if they aren't listed in a menu. How picky should I be? Can you please tell me what you think, this is new for me.

Thank You, For Listening
When food is cooked with alcohol, the alcohol cooks out. (well if cooked properly)
Thanks for sharing, Chris...I know for me, anytime I am anywhere where alcohol is present, I have extra viligence for what is going on around me, about what I am going to consume. Today, it has become 2nd nature to question what's or how a meal is prepared?, is there any alcohol in the preparation?, what's in the glass? Today, my sobriety is the most important thing and I know, it would just take a drop of alcohol to hit the tongue and the beast would be screaming for more.

I've heard some people eat meals or deserts made with alcohol as it's supposedly cooked out but I am not willing to take that chance. I don't consume any alcohol wether it's in a bottle, in a dish, in the communion cup at church, I don't do it but that's me.

Now a days, when we're going to dine at a restaurant where alcohol is used in making dishes, I call ahead and ask which dishes are alcohol free, which deserts are alcohol free and I go in prepared. That's just me, though Chris.

It does get easier as time goes by...
Smooches,
Stacey
You are right to be cautious and to question everything because you being sober is a major, major thing that nothing can be allowed to interfere with. People don't understand the deal with having no alcohol at all in anything, because they don't know what being alcoholic is like, and how dangerous alcohol is to us.

I think Staceys idea of finding out exactly what is on offer is a good one, or ordering something that you know is safe. And if waitresses try and give you alcohol, just remember the horror of it and be completely proud to be different and turn it down, because to us alcohol sucks!!

And Chris - wow!!! It sounds beautiful what you have going with your husband and children at the moment. How completely wonderful for you. You have put in all the hard work, so deserve to reap the rewards. I am really happy for you that you are enjoying your marriage so much, it is lovely to hear.

Take care and keep up the amazing work!!
hey I was wondering about stuff like that myself. Lookinup glad to know that things are going so well for you. congrats
LOL...not making light of the situation, but I had to chuckle when you said servers assume everyone drinks! I've lived in Utah for the last 13 years and I used to serve tables AND this is one state where we don't assume everyone drinks. :)

Congrats on being careful and enjoying your night despite to few bumps. What a wonderful additional gift of sobriety, to feel like a schoolgirl falling back in love....many gifts I am looking forward to.

Thanks for sharing...

In spirit,
Thank You, Ladies

For the replies and sound advice. You are right one drop on my tongue and the beast would be demanding more. Yes, it's a major thing for me to remain sober. It's really a life and death situation for me. I'm serious.

I need to learn that it's all right that I'm different I just don't know how. I kinda feel like a freak some times. Perhaps I need to change my perspective and think well I'm special. God made me this way. He doesn't want me polluting my body. I'm working on my thinking about this subject. I just need more time.

I will keep my senses raised, I have to protect my sobriety above all other things. Funny how even my perfume when I first spray it on, or hairspray I walk out of the bathroom as I can smell the alcohol and it repulses me.

Zipper, I understand what your saying there about living in Utah. The one state that doesn't promote alcohol. My In-laws are LDS. They are very nice people and I except everyone's right to choose their religion, God of choice. But that one is definately not for me.

Pirate we can learn together. I'm glad I don't have to do this by myself.

Thanks Again Ladies,
Have A Great Weekend,
Love, Chris
Yea...the rest of my family is LDS but I decided early on in life that it wasn't for me. Makes it difficult living here, not being LDS, and not having kids...but for the moment, this is where I call home. :)
