Librium ?

A friend of mine told me that Librium would help me to get clean.
Now I know that many years ago when I was in a clinic for withdrawal they put me on librium but I cannot remember whether it was good , bad or indifferent. I was on so many other things at the same time. Does anyone here have any info. on Librium and if it would help?
Pete is this the same pete which alcohol probs etc - if so librium is used to ease you whilst you detox from alchol it is a form of diazepam it is not a cure just an assisted med for detox - same as subutex - assisted med for detox - librium are also addictive thats why you got it in a clinic - they wouldnt give you a script of it being an alcoholic.

lol outof
Librium is a drug by the name of Chlordiazepoxide and possesses sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic and muscle relaxant properties.

It is not actually in the diazepam (valium) family but has similar effects in some ways.

May be useful in the alleviation of alcohol withdrawal syndromes, although drug dependence may result, substituting for alcohol dependence.

Ask a doctor if you are interested in knowing more.
Chlordiazepoxide, or Librium, is the oldest of the benzo's, having been approved in the country for anxiety, and as an aid in alcohol withdrawal, in the late 1950's. It is addictive as all benzo'z are, but if taken for a short duration, like during withdrawal you should be ok. Just don't keep taking it for a longer period for you will develop tolerance, addiction, etc..They are hell to get off of if you ever get heavily addicted to them, so be careful-good luck!

Hi Dr Bob
TX for U'r comment. I am not intending getting hooked on them , I was only wondering if they would be a longer term solution,
From your & Outof's responses I guest not. So I won't be going there.
That ios the real VALUE of this forum we CAN help one another along the way.
Are you really a Doc or is that just your handle online ?
Thanks again\Pete
Pete;

I was a Pharmacist in the Navy for six years, and ended up getting my Doctorate in Government and Philosophy. I teach at a college. I have not got an MD's shingle. It's a PHD. But I also posess some, shall we say, "extensive" experience with the Pharmacuetical Industry and their products.

Thanks for the question-

Dr. Bob
