My friend is going into rehab on Monday. He called to let me know yesterday and we spoke for a few minutes about it. I wished him the best of luck and told him how proud I was of him. That's how it was left...no expectations on my end. I so desperately hope this works out for him and hope that he'll let me know of his progress but I understand that this is his battle, not mine. Would it be inappropriate or unhelpful to him for me to contact him tomorrow to re-iterate how proud I am of him and how much I'm thinking of him during this time? I want him to know that he does have friends (sober friends) who will be here when he's on the road to recovery...but I don't want to force feed the information to him. Any thoughts?
All I know is that when I was in rehab it was an intimidating time filled with fear and doubt. Any encouragement and acknowledgement from someone would have been greatly appreciated. I knew my life would have to change and I neede to stick only with sober people and feeling accepted by someone in the sober crowd would have been very encouraging.
I think that would be great. Giving words of encouragement will probably help him through tough situation and might make him feel more determined. I think that is awesome.
Thanks everyone. I texted him but got no response. I don't think I expected or wanted one though. Please keep him in your thoughts that he gets through this and does well in recovery.
Thanks again and to everyone out there, you are in my thoughts constantly. I feel as though I know you through your posts.

In all the detoxs I am aware of take away personal items such as cell phones, so if you texted him through your phone he won't get it until he is ready to leave. What a boost that will be if he gets it while he is leaving. It will make his day....
Dear Sunshine,
You picked a good name because you are just that. A ray of sunshine. How thoughful and nice of you to be there for your friend, when there are probably alot of people that aren't and he's probably got alot of "friends" that aren't sober and I think you being sober and a friend will give him nothing other than support, encouragement and love. I usually post on the pain pills, thats my problem, but I was just glancing around the other boards and your post touched my heart. He's lucky to have you.
God Bless you Sunshine!
