Mdone To Subs..

howdy partners, i've never posted here before but my girlfriend is a loyal patron.
we have been addicted to all types of opiates for a little over 2 years now. we are currently enrolled in a methadone treatment center. Methadone seems, to both me and my gf, to be a very bad long term decision for someone who wants to be completely clean and sober. (major side effects, tolerance, long term dependance, easy availability, horrible detoxes etc.) So i have made a doctor appt to get suboxone. my doc appt is in one week from now. I asked my doctor what should i do about the methadone treatment and she said "STOP ASAP" this seems pretty hard to do with the appt being one week from now, and the actual persciption not to be given for even longer than that. so my question for you guys are should i start going down on my doses starting tomorrow? should i just stop now and rough it? should i just continue my current dose until i get my suboxone? WHAT? the doctor and the clinic are telling me different things and i need outside opinions. can someone please speak from personal experience or just give me any kind of help on this situation.
I've never been on subboxone but from what I hear, you have to be in withdrawal when you start? (don't quote me on that) You should probably start detoxing now and when you're a few days away from starting subs...then stop. I heard that you have to detox down to 30 mg. before you stop and go to subs. There are other people on here who know for sure. You'll hear from them. Good luck. It sounds like you and your gf know what you want and you're willing to work for it. There's no need to suffer needlessly, though. (no matter what your Doc says!) Just pick a plan and try to see it through. This is a great forum to talk things out with like-minded people. (is like-minded a word?) Oh well... Nice to meet you and like I said, "Good Luck"
i've heard about having to go down to 30 mgs. it just didn't make sense because when i was using heroin and got on suboxone before they didn't say that i had to go down to two dime bags before i could take the suboxone. is there a reason to why you can only be taking so much mdone and it not being that way with other opiates when getting on suboxone?
I can't give personal experience, but I do know sub my husband has been on it over 2 years now.....
Lets see, not sure what your dose is but you should be down and stable at around 30mgs before the switchover.....But that seems to be changing, why I am not sure. Meth takes a long time to get out of the system and off the receptors. If you are not in full blown wd and you dose, or are in wd as some have been and still have to much meth on the receptors you will be thrown into precipated wd. Which isn't fun....
Read here, JW's story.

I left a link there to the dosing guidelines they use. remember nothing is set in stone. what you score on the COWS scale is better to show if it is safe to dose.
JW left his email in that thread, contact him and ask questions.
Also there is another forum that had more users on methadone and more sub related information. It is a good place for info as well to talk to those who have done the switch.

Ask questions and ask some more....
Good luck to you and your gf.
