a friend of mine has been addicted to meth for over 7 yrs, it was treatment for chronic pain. what is the answer for this addiction?
ALLIE, PERSONALLY UNLESS YOUR FRIEND IS ABUSING THE DRUG AND NO LONGER HAS PAIN, WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS ADDICTION? PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC PAIN STAY ON MEDICATION THE REST OF THERE LIVES. DO YOU THINK IT IS A PROBLEM,OR DOES YOUR FRIEND THINK SO. SUSAN
That's not much of a question! Either take it or don't. If you want an answer look in a book. The only thing I can tell you is that in most circumstances where opiates are prescribed as pain relief no psychological addiction develops, although they will experience physical withdrawals if they stop taking medication. However, they don't experience the kind of torture and grief that the junkie has to go through. If your friend is taking the medication as prescribed, and not buying on the street I doubt there is a problem at all. Drug use and drug abuse are two entirely different things.
Sorry for being sarcastic. I'm pissed off about a variety of things, so don't take it personally. I'll play nice now.

there is no one answer, if there were, we would all be cured happy little dumplings.
talk to your friend.
find out how your friend feels about being on 'done.
sometimes we are physically addicted yes, but that doesn't mean that there is an addiction as such.
big difference.
what kind of life are they leading?
are they functioning?
what signs are they giving you that makes you think it's become a problem?
good luck, keep the communication open.
