Question....what is the scoop on methadone detox program? I am scared of methadone (way too many scarry stories). Is this a reasonable detox method? The program is 2 weeks long.
Any information is appreciated.
Don't do it! Methadone is evil, and I have rarely, if ever, seen it work. I have been clean for many years, but was a shameless dope fiend for most of my youth. I had also heard the horror stories, but I decided to try it anyway. To make a long story short, it was a nightmare. I still did dope on top of it, as most of the participants in the program did. I ended up going to jail with a methadone habit, that took MONTHS to kick, and was much worse than the multiple heroin kicks I had done. The meth program is a money racket. When I tried to detox, the counselor told me I wasn't ready yet and refused to honor my request. They have you take random urine tests, and won't give you your meth until you produce. If you are dirty, they recommend MORE meth, and if you are still dirty they threaten to kick you out of the program...just like that, after you are so dependent on the s***. Then you get freaked out about getting kicked out. The whole thing is a psycho horror show. I highly recommend kicking the old fashioned way...DON'T get involved with methadone. It is just another problem to add to our already problematic lives.
To say "don't do it " because it hasn't worked 4 u , or any of ur aquaintances , i think is a bit irresponcable as we don't know about the ladies sons problem. Or what amount of the drug he's tapering from.I am a recovering heroin addict and I know for a fact that if used CORRECTLY , for some people it works.I used half gram heroin daily , went on to 30ml methadone and came down slowlyuntil one day i forgot to take it before i went to work and " hey presto". I didn't use heroin on my detox and just stuck to the methadone. It worked for me plus for some of my friends.Years down the line i'm now detoxing with sudutex , which i do think is better' but ' methadone does work. good luck with ur decision "his momma" . Best thing u can do is ask the good old doctor , take xcare , herman. hugs all around................................................P.S. 2 week detox sounds quite harshas it took me roughly 3 months 2 come off 30ml.
the amount of the detox program depends on the amount of methadone he is doing......should come down slowly, but perhaps said person is using the meth to come off heroin.....if so I only went from 20 milligrams down and was doing over a bundle a day......of ocurse i was away longer and given alternate meds to make me comfortable.....good luck to ya
2 weeks is a quick detox. It could work depending how long you have been on heroin. You get built up to 35 mg and they brought down and off. This isnt too successful. You must be commited to getting clean. get involved with a support group and dont use while on this detox. You are not going to feel too bad but dont expect a miracle.
The next step they try to get you to do is a 60 day detox- same concept. However this gives you more time and the detox is slower and might be less painful. Again having a support group during your detox and after is essential.
The physical discomfort will ge lightened if you just follow the clinic,s rules, The hardest part at this point is the mental agony. This is where meetings,therapy,or any other help you can get will help becuse the feelings of wanting to get high just dont disappear.
Next is induction and methadone matience. I wont even get into this,>> I myself got into methadone matience many years ago and still am.
At the time it was a life savor- but as time went on I just never took it seriously
and keep drinking everyday-
MM is to be avoided if at all possible and in most cases its not nessecery
Anyway- be careful- have a plan!

Im on 35 mg of liquid methadone- down from 80. Yes I must drink every day.

Most clinics dispense methadone in a liquid. When I said drink every day ,thats what I meant.
A big problem in the beginning of mdone treatment is the craving to get high . Mdone will take away the sickness but not the cravings.
However,I have been on it so long I really dont have the cravings to get high anymore- (sometimes,but it goes away quickly)
The danger with a low dose of mdone -is that you can use heroin and still feel the effects.
Mdone has pros and cons- be careful. It has the potential to turn into a lifesytle

She gets confused easily....LOL....that's my friend.....she has that crazy music in her head, and can't think straight....LOL.....she misread what you meant.
Personally, and as Herman said now this is only me....I don't know the woman or her son, and hopefully she gets good information....I wouldn't do it for longer than a detox in a rehab.....usually four days....now that's me....Wild had her experience, and that's what I have seen also.....nightmares, and plus I didn't want to have to show up somewhere every single day, and waiting in a line, and go through those programs.
We've heard horror stories....with clinics, and all....how they'll do exactly as Wild has said....I see people rushing past me daily to get to the clinic....so it's to me another addiction only regulated.....again that is my opinion.
I could not imagine kicking the 'done let alone doing it in jail.....that had to be really bad, and I know they don't care no matter....lucky to get an asprin....so there's different views on this.....for me methadone, and that had been via pill form...I loved it....better than heroin.....except once that started to wear off I would be more aggressive than with dope....I mean BAD....I'm hoping we helped a little bit to this question......hey, Jack hope everything is good in teen raising vill LOL Alot of us right there with you.

Let me say this on methadone....my experience lately is mostly with my boyfriend, ex-boyfriend.who knows what the hell he is besides nuts !! He has been on methadone since i got clean 20 some odd months ago, he doesnt drink it though , his pysch gives him pills each month and he doses himself according to his mood.....then tries to detox himself, unsuccesfully of course.....he lives in West virginia now and comes to philly every month for his meds..I know he doesn;t do any drugs but the methadone as he lives in the middle of nowhere.....I mean nowhere <side note..a few months back he did state that he found some ambiens in this old house there and took them and then rode his ride on lawnmower naked in the woods, the trees were coming to life so he rushed home and then forgot where the lawnmower was...>, anyway......said man....ended up burning his cottage in the wilderness and now lives in a freaking tepee.....and when we do tak , via phone e-mail.he is just off the wall....think that methadone is making him crazier by the day.........
curious does someone monitor you , like a doctor or someone as to how u r faring on the methadone
Bryn , hi, .... yeah it is another addiction but........ur takin the criminal element out of it plus hopefully u don't go 2 the same haunts and meet up with the dealers as much as u would do. Then when ur stable u start 2 come off.

SPIT CUP: The person goes in....gets their dose and keeps it in their mouth comes out spits it in another persons whatever, and they take it...can't say the going rate for that.....definately many people have been helped, and like you have said the criminal element and all.....that's a for sure.
So yeah if it helps I say go for it.....I only got a 25 on my first night....in one place, and I was climbing the walls....I mean BAD...drama, and all....then when I got in this other hellhole....everyone always wants to go there....I got 25, and I was feeling comfy...so the brand name or make or whatever matters too...none of the grounding up the pill, and mixing it....then you get the people who throw up on purpose so they get another hit.....that's amusing....what we don't do trying to get it or get off of it.

You,re are all correct on your mdone dianognoses(sp). Like I said it helped me <but unfortunetly I kept it going. Times passes so quickly. So now I deal with it. Its not for everyone and someday Ill be off,but Im a functional working person in a hectic world not using dope- so for now it will have to do.
I believe that these clinics let too many people on who really dont need to be on mdone. Money reasons or whatever, is seems to me the kind of people I see getting on now are a lot different than the lost souls (of which I was guilty )who got on years ago.
With other safer alternatives these days that werent around when I 1st got on , there should be very few new mdone clients.

I've never heard of Winterville. We have a Washington Square park here in Center City.....I live in Philadelphia......the realty market here is cookoo's. I mean through the roof....Becky from Families Board was saying her boyfriend was looking at these condo's here in South Philly......this area is not good.
I mean what is here....but still I mean it's the gentrifyers of the world running around grabbing up places.....trying to change neighborhoods around....we have a massively high crime rate here.....oh, and for $350,000 you can get a condo, and be smack in the middle of it....prostitutes, and open air drugs, and you know the crack walk.....wrists turned out, and legs spazzing, and taking up an entire sidewalk....I feel so bad when I see that.
So sure head on over.....LOL....it's finally starting to calm down here realty wise.
