Methadone For Pain??

I had a horrific accident in 03, broke my leg in 4 places, shattered my pelvis, broke hip in 9 places (which they wont replace until I am in my late 60's, Im 54 now) broke my back in 5 places, ruptured 3 discs, 2 protruding, one chrushed, broke all my ribs on my left side, broke my neck in 2 places, tore my left thumb off with the steering wheel (which they sewed back on!) punctured my lung, tore a kidney from its foundation, lacerated my liver and a few others that I just cant remember right now, but it has left me with over 20 lbs of hardware. I SUFFER on a daily basis, but after taking a few pain management courses I am able to manage most days, however I have pain constantly and without pain meds, I can not work. As it is, with the small amounts of meds I was getting I managed to feed and house 4 kids, barely, but I did it without a hand out from welfare. Now I have a major problem, the dr I had been seeing for 15 years has decided to quit and go to be a anesthesiologist. There are no drs accepting patients in my area, been trying for 3 months now so I have had to buy my meds off the street. The thing about doing that is that he never says to me "your too early for a new script" nor does he say " I think your taking too many at a time" I take 4 10 mg MSIR's(morphine sulfate immediate release) a day, used to take much more but realized that more isnt always better. But I really dont want to keep buying my meds off the street and would rather it to be on the up and up so I am looking at the methadone for my pain (tried suboxone but just made me hurl as soon as I put it into my mouth) The troubles with that is that when I was a little boy I had been abused mentally and physically, when I was "bad" I was forced to eat lemons, peel and all, until I threw up as punishment, so now I even smell a lemon and I throw up, cant help that. Does anyone have methadone JUST for pain? I have come off narcotics before and the withdrawal part didnt really bother me too much, it was like having a bug for a few days. I have gone weeks without taking any pills but during those weeks, I was useless to me and my family. I need a drug that wont label me and one that doesnt make me feel all loopy. I had hoped the suboxone would have been the ticket but....
methadone withdrawal is much ore serious problem then you think but then it depends on amount and for how long you been taking, why dont you read trough other people posts here and see how it goes. I dont know about methadone as painkiller is best idea and everybody who i know is taking methadone for opiate problem. last year after having gallbladder surgery i had to take Tramadol painkillers for pain, methadone couldnt help e but then i a on 40 mills for last 4 years so maybe I a use to
Hmmmm.....well...yes...lots of people take methadone just for pain...however. ..coming off methadone isn't anything like coming off opiates...for one...the taper can take a long time..and depending on length and depth of dose...can be harder...the wd's also last up to 3 to 4 weeks...not to mention the constant clinic bs you will have to deal with if you cant get it through a private practitioner....and of course ...the stigma...that said...morphine and methadone are two different animals....I've been on both...if you can get methadone. ..couldn't you speak to someone at the clinic about getting a script ? 40 mg of morphine a day is no where near what your going to get with methadone....methadone in my experience is stronger...but then I'm coming from a heroin perspective. ..and neither in my opinion are as strong...not recommending dope btw...that's it's own special hell....anyway...just be sure....otherwise...I've heard it's very good for chronic high threshold pain...hope that helped some...

Lol...Hi B...think we posted at same time !
I think if the suboxone made you sick so would methadone. If your not used to something that strong..40mg morphine is nothing compared to even a small amout of methadone. i do know people that have taken for pain..worked for one other not so much..i think worth a shot to try and see how works for you..initial side effects if any should pass (feeling nausus/itchy) that's one complaint a friend had. Agree with bonnie and con as far as withdawl being much different then other pain meds. Good luck... -mary
