Hello All, Im new to this forum & need advice. Im 45 years old guy who suffered a broken neck in 1997. I was on Loratab for two years & then Oxycontin for a year. I got out of control on the Oxy and my Dr. put me on methadone. I am currently on 60 mg per day. I am at a point where I want to get my life back to normal . I'm going to come off the methadone either by Rapid detox or Suboxone . Could some of you give me advice on what works or what don't. Is one Rapid Detox facility as good as another? Thanks Big H
if you look on the pain pill boards there has been alot about rapid detox lately. look for postings by jackspacks. he went to one in florida and it has worked wonders for him, even though it is really expensive.{$10,000 US}
You have to get down to 30mg of methadone before you can start sub, In my opinion sub helps you prepare mentaly for detox (although I am not a great example of this) I am very suspisiuous of rapid detox but each to there own

I did a UROD( ultra rapid opiate detox ) in sep 2002 here in Hong Kong. I was also on methadone and using heroin on top each day. The prodecure here is done by an English doctor. The detox itself is precipitated by naltrexone(I had an implant) and the general anesthetic he uses here is ketamine..strange I hear you cry....apparently he prefers using ketamine as the patient moves around during withdrawal and then settles down when withdrawal is complete...I had read some horror stories about doctors bringing people out before withdrawal was over. My detox went pretty smooth...I don't remember much...although I did feel pretty s***ty and weak etc. for a while..better than the pure hell of plain old cold turkey which lasts forever with methadone. I don't know much about suboxone but if you want to know more about my UROD experience..no prob. Oh yeah btw..I've been clean since that detox in 2002.
Hey Davehk, I would like to here more about your rapid detox expierence. How much methadone was you on at time of detox, what was the highest dose you were at. How long before your energy returned & normal sleep? I really appreciate your help. Thanks Big H
Hi Big H. Well my UROD kinda went like this. First of all about 9 am was given a handful of pills to swallow including midazolam, clonidine, something for cramps, big vitamin C injection etc.(I kept asking whats that for? whats this for? etc.) and waitied nervously for them to kick in and then remember some time later lying down after having put on a nappy(diaper) and then don't remember much...apparently was given ketamine IM(repeatedly during detox) and the doctor implanted the naltrexone implant which precipitates and speeds up the withdrawal(literally flusing the opiates off the receptor sites).Also had a drip...saline or something? I remember flashes of the detox..a nurse wiping my arse(my doc says all his paitients have REALLY bad squirts)..thrashing about etc...and flying through tunnels in space(no s***!)...the ketamine I guess. Next thing I remember was my docs voice but not really being able to respond...completely without any energy. Apparently it was evening the next day..Very slowly over the next few days began to regain some strength although felt REALLY dizzy and confused and had to be helped by two people on either side going to the toilet etc. Couldn't eat food..think I might have drunk some protein shake or something. Felt like crap..but better than I had expected..although my stomach cramps were awful(these lasted a few days) and they kept telling the worst was over, which was true. On the fourth day after arriving for my UROD my doc escorted me(in a wheelchair) to a treatment center overseas..and after a few days I physically started to improve..was mobile although still really weak. I was surprised that I could sleep ok...3-4 hours..then 5-6 etc.. through the first weeks in treatment...it's just that I felt tired all the time and sometimes this still lingers today..but it's not too bad. Overall if I had to do it all over again I would although I pray I wont. I was on 100mgs of methadone and between 1/2 and 1 g of smack on top, daily for the last few years of my using....kinda in a hopeless position as I'd originally gone onto methadone to get off the junk(like most) and ended up with a habit that was 3 times the size and impossible to kick in my terrified opinion. I'm very grateful for modern medicine and the UROD..I had always slammed it while I was using(in fact prob. too afraid to do it) and would most likely would still be out there if I didn't do it or possibly ..dead...who knows? It was an expensive opition ...around the equivilant of $5800 U.S plus the escort plus treatment etc.............but worth it in my opinion. It's not completely painless but gets gets you 3/4 the way through withdrawal before you know it which is great if you're on methadone. I'm in rapid detox now... My last dose of 140mg of methadone was sat at 10:30 and it's the following sat at 10am. The day I showed up I was in withdraw. I hadn't dosed since that and showed up Wed, but shot about 5 grams of herion to help me up until that day. The first day and night were sort of bad, but since then I've just felt tired. This morning I feel good and I have emotions again, it's great. My last day is this Wed. when they do the final flush and stick the naltrexone implant in my stomach. The implant fills the receptors, which stop the withdraw symptoms, cravings ect. a bit. I'll post and tell you how it goes. I tried tapering twice on methadone and I"m pretty hard core, I've detoxed off herion on myself many times, pucking, diareah, no sleep ect. But methadone is just a beast. I think it's the devil because I got fat and lazy and sweat all the time, lost desire for SEX! I'm DONE!
